Default acquiring signal

I own the kenwood H2A home kit, and car kit. As of recently everytime I turn my tuner on, I can't get a signal, and when I do get a signal it only holds up for minutes at a time. I was so upset, I exchanged everything. Even with my new kenwood H2A, I still have the same problem. I just need some help because this is driving me crazy. I will give it two weeks, and if it keeps acting up, I will have no choice but to leave. Could someone please help me!!!!!!!

Is the antenna secure in the back of the unit? When I put my H2A in the car dock I always have to push the antenna in because it does not secure properly by just docking the unit.
I'm looking forward to the day when I replace the H2A. I am on my 2nd one that the display fades out on after it warms up.

I've been very disappointed in the H2A as well. Gave it to my daughter for Christmas and she probably didn't get more than two hours of music out of it. I thought I had pinched the antenna wire during install, but checked it carefully and it seems fine. She finally gave it up and I'm toying with the idea of using it in the house.

Default Signal loss...

I see that you live in Mobile. I called Sirius about massive droput I am having, and they said they were having problems in North Florida which may include you.

They tell me it is probably a repeater problem, but after 2 weeks since I first reported it and 2 subsequent phone calls to SIRIUS, still NOTHING!!

Does anyone else who lives in the deep South have a reception problem??

Is the unit working in your car, or does it produce the same problem in both the car and inside the home?

If it works in the car, then either the antenna on the home dock is faulty or you need to make sure the antenna is positioned in the correct position according to where you live. Look at the chart below (courtesy of Sirius.com) for the proper aiming placement:

Another option for the home would be to put the antenna outside pointing straight up. If in fact the antenna is faulty, see about getting another home kit. Hope you get the problem fixed.

I tell you whats odd. For some reason at night it will drop out for more than a few seconds and I'll get acquiring signal messages but during the day when I'm mainly listening to Sirius NFL Radio it doesn't. It just doesn't make sense!
I've only heard it happen one time. This has been happening for a few nights now. At least that's when I'm hearing it.

And it used to be for a while where I didn't get any dropouts at all for a change. Either that or it drops out so briefly and no acquiring signal messages occur. It used to drop out at night and day no matter when I've listen to it.

Since the home kit antenna would seem to be directional does one have to adjust it depending on whether one is trying to maximize the satellite or repeater signal?

Sirius being a digital medium is a bit different than the analog mediums i think most of you are accustom too. Most people have NO clue what digital artifact is, or what it sounds like,

What most of you are explaining is actually poor reception, (here is something i wish i could say at work) some units just plain suck, don't ask me why, it's not the antennas, i think some just have poor pre-amps or something.

Digital signals are funny in that there either clear, or there not they're at all. There is either enough data to assemble the audio or there isn't. Anybody who has ever talked to somebody who was on a digital cell phone knows what i'm talking about.

Here are some pointers i give people when they ask me for assistance in the home (the most problematic of all places):
1) Have it in a window at 45 degrees toward the middle of the country.
2) If you have a metal screen between you and the open sky, you won't receive anything.
3) Some windows actually have metallic flakes in them to help keep your home cool during summer months, in hot climates these are common.
4) These home antennas are weather proof, you can stick them right outside on the ground.

If you're still having problems get an external antenna (the sir6 is a VERY nice antenna i have one myself and it sounds superb, i have not even the slightest trace of digital artifact.) if this still doesn't help... DONT CALL SIRIUS ITS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE HARDWARE. Sirius doesn't make hardware (except the sportster but it has it's own tech support number) we provide service, warranties are there for a reason, bad hardware does exist, with the recent boom in satellite radio thee units can hardly be made fast enough, manufacturing defects will occur, if you don't know the number of you hardware vendor, call Sirius and ask. We have a list of tech support numbers for almost all the different vendors (even a DCX Customer support number), and thank the CSR, a nice word really does go along way, ppl rarely call us up and go "Wow sounds great i get no drop outs and you programming is great"

In my case I stated the question poorly. I think I'm going to have to go after the repeater signal since I am heavily "treed" in at my location. The repeater signal is probably on the order of 1 to 1 1/2 bars. Rather than a home kit I will probably end up buying a Sportster boombox... until the day I get a wireless music system set up in the home.
