Default Power adapter question for Sportster

In my car installation of the Sportster, using the cigarrette lighter is not an option for power any longer. I do however have standard power outlets in my vehicle as well. Is there any 'official' power adapter or could anyone recommend one that would allow me to power the receiver through a standard outlet in my car?

Would the power outlet from the home kit work?

I'm not sure what you mean by standard power outlets, if you are talking about the other power ports that look just like the cigarrette lighter, the answer is yes. They also supply 12V DC. You just use the car power cord that came with the car kit.

sorry for the confusion, it actually it's just plain old regular power outlets, like the ones in your house to plug in regular electronic devices in the car (DVD player, TV, laptop GPS equipemnt etc)

I will double check, but they were hooked up by an electrician friend of mine. Basically it's a second battery with a DC-AC converter creating 3 120V AC outlets. I will double check that though (electricity is not my strong suit - I plug things into it, it works, that's about all I know )

Thanks for the previous quick responses also.

If the outlets are 120V then I can't see any reason why you could not use the home kit power supply.

The easier way to do it instead of using the converter outlets is simply chop the end off the cigarette adapter, put on an inline fuse and wire it directly to ACC. This way you don't have to worry about anything
