Default It's Happened Again - Sportster Replay Problems. Help!

Well, my bad luck with defective Sportster displays continues. First problem was in this thread and now it's with my Replay. The screen display is fading something terrible and there's noticeable distortion when in the contrast menu. This happens even when in manual display mode. It's hard to view the screen from across a room even when the text display is set to large. I thought at first it was just my eyes having a hard time trying to adjust to the blue on blue screen...after being used to the original's orange...unfortunately that's not the case.

I just wanted to know what's the best way to go about getting a replacement? I bought this from CMA and noticed they stated for defective products returned after 30 days to email/call them and they will contact the manufacturer. Does this mean that I'll have to first return my defective unit to receive a replacement -- I only have the one receiver and don't want to have to go without SIRIUS service. When I had problems with my first one from SIRIUS Direct, even though it took around 3 months, they sent a return merchandise label along with the new receiver so I didn't have to go without service.

I know Jeremy has stated in the past to contact Directed Electronics and they'll gladly replace the equipment under warranty. I'm just worried that if I do have to first send back the defective one, that I'll end up going without service for a long period of time.

Unfortunately, that is the way warrantees work, you send in your old one and they send you one back. I don't think they work on these tuners, so they probably send back a refurbished unit, though at this early stage, they probably don't have many refubished so you'll more than likely end up with a new one.

I think CMA is pretty much out of it once you go beyond 30 days, unless they just want to be nice. But generally with any retailer, once you go beyond the first 30, its between you and the manufacture, unless you have an extended warrantee.

What's the usual time-frame on the whole process? As crazy as it might sound, I'd actually rather keep using a defective receiver if the only other option was going a long period of time without service while waiting for a replacement.

I just don't understand why they can't go the route of SIRIUS Direct (with the exception of the 3 month wait) and send both the replacement receiver along with a return merchandise label...then I send the defective one back. That way I don't have to go without service and it makes transferring over much easier. Afterall, it's the manufacturer's fault that the product is defective -- not mine.

What were the terms of the purchase? My guess is you were advised at the time of purchase what the requirements were for the return of a defective unit. No offense but like most of us you probably didn't pay attention to the fine print.

Well, I was stressing out over nothing. I finally contacted CMA and promptly got a reply from Taylor:

Dear Chad,

No problem. If I were you I would purchase another SPTK2 get the rebate
while signing up for another six months of service. Send the old one back
when you get the new one. And we will refund your original purchase price
on the old one. A few other people have had the same display issues.

You are also welcome to send the unit back and return it for another. Just
make sure the remote, antenna, and receiver are included with as many of
the other contents as possible in the box.

Regards,
Taylor Mitchell
Color Match Antenna

Just try getting that kind of service from the big guys.
