Default Amplifying home kit signal for an apartment?

I just moved into an apartment in Ohio, and I'm having some issues with my home kit for my Sportster. I found a spot in the window this morning with 7 bars of signal, and it worked great, but this afternoon it was cutting out and just generally awful, kept going back and forth between 3 and 0. I've tried putting it between the blinds and the glass and got no sound at all, while I get spotty sound on the windowsill. I can't put it outside because of the way the windows are made, and I couldn't mount it out there anyway since it's an apartment. Does anyone have any ideas for amplifying the signal so I can get my Sirius fix without doing it online?

Edited to add some extra info: My apartment is on the west side of the building and my windows face north. I have the antenna facing west in the windowsill right now.

Thanks!

The best was is to buy the 50' antenna and get it on the roof.

I know this is what you don't want to hear, but the antenna needs to see the sky.

Here's a map:

You can also listen online.

Putting anything outside or on the roof is just not an option...much less a 50 foot antenna.

And listening online isn't really an option right now either since my hardwired-to-the-network computer is not operational at the moment, but won't play the stream anyway even when it is working.

Can I wrap the thing in aluminum foil? haha

The antenna is wire, not a 50' tall antenna, BTW.

I have read here before where people put the antenna in a foil pie dish.

I had better luck with a car antenna indoors when I didn't have a good line of sight at the satellite.
