Default Trouble shooting a 2 1/2 year old problem

Believe it or not this is my system in my car. The old standard Panasonic CR-SRF100 Sirius Satellite Radio FM Modulator/Controller System. It mostly works well and I am happy for the most part.

Problem is now an again I hear this annoying series of three clicks whcih cycles every second or so. I have notices that when I much with stuff in the truck sometimes it changes and sometimes not. For many months it will be a problem and then for months it won't.

So I got fed up and did some trouble shooting. The noise is always from the left channel. BIG clue I think. I can swosh the balance back and forth and always only on the left. So I have been fiddling with the RCA cable between the receiver and FM modulator (they live in the truck) and I think that is it. It seems that the left wire mustn't touch anything else. Question is how do I suspend it from mid air and why isn't the electrical tape protecting the connection and what is causing this incessarnt and infuriating sound? Any ideas?

UB

Could be bad connection on the ground. Since you have electrical tape that concerns me. Perhaps resolder the connection, check the ground, use some heat shrink material to replace the electrical tape and strengthen the connector? Post a pic if you can.

i agree i would try to re-ground the unit and possibly replace the RCA's. It's not out of the question for them to have gone bad. Also and a last resort they sell RCA ground loop isolators which might also help. However, if the system is grounded properly it should be unescessary.
