Default Power Adapter Problem with Starmate

I have a Starmate receiver that I just bought from BestBuy on Sunday August 7th. When I plug the power adapter (for a car), that I got with my Starmate receiver, into the cigarette lighter, and then try to turn on the receiver, it doesn’t turn on. Is there something I need to do before plugging the power adapter into the receiver, or is there something wrong with the power adapter and I should take it back to BestBuy because I can return it within 30 days. And there isn’t anything wrong with receiver because it works fine with the power adapter I got in the Starmate Home Kit.

(If it matters I have a 2000 Ford Taurus SE)

Make sure that the fuse it the power cord is ok. The check the cig lighter with something else...maybe a cell phone power cord.

If all fails, just return it. Could be a bum cord.

I have the exact same issue, except I have intermittant power. Works great on the home kit.

I just started using my Starmate in the car, and the power jack on the unit itself has become loose -- the car adapter is also not a snug fit, so between the two I don't dare touch the unit once I get it to finally stay on. After 3 days, the problem has gotten so bad I can't listen to the unit in the car at all. I'm going to take it apart tonight and glue the power jack in place and hope that fixes it.

Since you just got it, I would return it. I don't think it's you.

Test it out in another car to see if the cord is OK. If it is, then the fuse in your car is probably blown. When I was doing a temporary hook-up with mine to my sisters car for a road trip I didn't get any power. Turned out the fuse to the cig lighter was blown.

Other things, like cell phone chargers, work in this car. Anyway I returned it to Bestbuy today and they just gave me a new "Vehicle ready Starmate receiver" package. Thanks for the responses.

Well, power is completely dead on mine. I popped the back cover off and the solder joints for the power were busted. Other than the solder, there's nothing holding the jack, which would probably be okay, but one of mine was a messy joint to begin with. I guess you get what you pay for, but it's not a very robust design. I little piece of plastic would eliminate the weakness.

Fortunately, I can fix that...
