Default Install Question

I want to purchase the new Sportser TK2 receiver with car kit, my problem is I do not want the antenna permanently installed because I have 2 cars and want to use the system in both cars. My question is will the system work if you place the microdot antenna on the dash. If I have to get it installed I will probably not purchase since my main goal is to have it portable.

If the question asked is answered no, it will not work, is there something like a wireless antenna that you could place on the roof or hood.

PS. Another problem I would have with installing the antenna is that I have a BMW Z3 convertible with no back window as one of my cars.
Thanks for any help

All,

Sorry for the double post. I hit the browser back to get to the forums instead of clicking the link after the post is finalized. Sorry about that, it won't happen again.

ElCid2K,
Don't sweat it. I was just pointing it out the irony of a double post of a message pointing out multiple posts. I just hope the SBSPD doesn't hunt you down and beat you silly.

I'm new to the forum and wasn't sure where to post the question, give me a break. I originally posted to the Cafe and received no replys and thought I would try some others, Whats the big deal?

FYI Marxy, I bought the car used not new so I was able to afford it, because one owns a BMW does not make me rich.

Aside from all that, it works fine on the dash.
Thanks

Bluestars..................It was never my intention to offend, it merely struck me as odd at the time.

I run my antennas on the the dash full time, but I find it much more convenient to use an extra car kit and simply switch out the Radio rather than the whole works.

I have 3 radios, 3 car kits and 2 home kits......could be why I don't own a Convertable BMW, huh! :\

Cheers

No problem,
Here is something that is pretty interesting. I purchased the Sirius boombox and I saw on another forum where the antenna that comes with the boombox is much stronger than the antenna included with the car kit, I took the antenna from the boombox and installed it to my car dock, the reception is even better now. (Not that it was bad before). I just need to purchase one more home kit antenna or boombox antenna to hook up to my second car. One thing to note though is the boombox antenna is not magnetic so it cannot sit on the roof of the car, it should only be used if your antenna works fine just sitting on the dash.
