Default Antenna Question

I want to purchase the new Sportser TK2 receiver with car kit, my problem is I do not want the antenna permanently installed because I have 2 cars and want to use the system in both cars. My question is will the system work if you place the microdot antenna on the dash. If I have to get it installed I will probably not purchase since my main goal is to have it portable.

If the question asked is answered no, it will not work, is there something like a wireless antenna that you could place on the roof or hood.

PS. Another problem I would have with installing the antenna is that I have a BMW Z3 convertible with no back window as one of my cars.
Thanks for any help

The antenna should work reasonably well on the dash.. It just won't work as good as having up clear on the roof. You'll get more dropouts..

FWIW, I listened to Sirius with my Audiovox PNP2 antenna on the dash for a few days after I got the unit.. I'd get the odd dropout whenever I changed direction and the steel roof of the car blocked the satellite signal.. But.. It worked most of the time. (This shouldn't be as much of a problem with your convertible since the signal should pass right through the top).

If you have a local repeater, you'll get even better performance because you'll be depending less on the satellites..

Just a note.. If you have one of those directly heated windshields, you might not get a signal at all.. The system uses a thin electrically conductive heater sandwiched in the glass which doesn't pass radio signals well..
