Default Song Seeks Not Working Any More?

Are your Song Seeks Not Working anymore?

Due to a recent change in the way SIRIUS is sending song title/artist information to the radios, Songs added to your Song Seek list prior to sometime last week will no longer work. Yes, that is correct, all the songs you have added to your song seek list prior to last week will no longer alert you when they play.

Why did SIRIUS Do This? We don't know. I think it has something to do with the S50 roll out and an attempt to save bandwidth - however these are only guesses on the part of the non-SIRIUS people who I've talked with.

Is there anything I can do? Yes, you have to re-add your song seek items. Once you readd your items they will begin to work again.

Is SIRIUS going to fix this? Unknown. I'm not even sure everyone at SIRIUS is aware of this. No vendor or support rep I've talked to is aware of anything.

Is there a more technical explaination avaible? Sure. SIRIUS Sends out Title, Artist and PID for most songs. PID is a unique number assigned to each song at SIRIUS (like a unique database record number). When you save an entry in your song seek list, the tuner uses only the PID to match if the song is playing. Prior to last week, PID's were entirely numeric. However, starting last week, the PID being broadcast is alpha numeric (numbers and letters.) Since the PID for the songs have changed, no existing song seek entries will work any more.

I doubt this was an accident -- Any my guess is is that SIRIUS now sends out either 2 IDs (artist and song) or uses a smart key (Evil!) that part is the artist ans part is the song. This would be needed for the new Artist Seek feature on the 3G Radios like the [amazing] Starmate Replay.

It was only on Friday I realized my song seeks had not been working since the big channel shuffle. I don't recall the Sirius folks giving advanced notice that this would happen. It took months to get the seeks I wanted. This is massively disappointing.

I understand that adding artist seek forced their hand but it would have been very nice to give some notice.

I agree with you 100%, but you know Sirius is never proactive, they are always reactive. Now wait, most of the time they don't react either. Uh never mind! LOL

I've noticed that songs that programmed from Super Shuffle don't work, because they have all that extra info on them like "song also heard on 13" Shit like that. Oh well....as long as my Neil Diamond songs keep coming through.

The extra text doesn't have anything to do with the s-seek working. I have saved many songs directly from Shuffle and I can confirm getting alerts. Sirius uses a PID to save by song or artist. So when that PID shows up no matter what text is display on the screen, you will get an alert.

I am not sure why you aren't getting the alerts, but it has nothing to do with the text on the display.

Oh man, what a pain. After Boombox had their problems with the text fields and stopped sending SID's (which Jeremy confirmed for me), I contacted them several times to point out the problem. They blew me off the first couple of times, but then all of a sudden I noticed the S-seeks started working again on that channel. I guess my complaint finally made its way to someone who could fix it.

I've painstakingly reset all my Boombox S-seeks over the last couple of months as I've noticed them playing. Now I have to do it again, not only for Boombox but for all the channels?! Thanks Sirius.

Sometimes making progress can be painful as is the case with them adding Artist Seek. Now that I have Artist seek I can tell you this is a minor inconvenience for what it delivers. This probably won't be the last time we'll experience growing pains as the technology changes and/or improves.

My only real complaint is that Sirius should have made some sort of official announcement telling subscribers due to this enhanced ability that s-seeks would have to be reset as of the particular date this all went into effect.

It is so much better for a company to be proactive rather than reactive.

I think I'll just delete all of my song seeks on both Sportsters and get a fresh start. OH HOW EXCITING!!! OK, sometimes little things excite me.

True enough, but I have a hard time believing that SIRIUS couldn't have done this in a way that was a little less inconvenient for the customers. As you say, even if it was just an announcement, at least we would have know what was going on. To have a popular feature just stop working like that is a little disruptive. For a while I wondered if my radio was broken, until I came here and searched.

The real inconvenience for me is that most of my S-seeks are for songs that play infrequently, so it's going to take forever to find them again.

You are right about Artist Seek. I really enjoy it on my SkyFi2 (although it would be nice to be able to turn the feature off sometimes; damn Delphi).

I am really glad that Sirius tuners allow you to turn off the song or artist seek feature. But what is even better is that you don't have to select for it to alert only on artist or only on songs. The reason is that Sirius had enough sense to know to allow you to add either the artst or the song to the memory so that you can do both. So I have some artist that I want to be alerted for any song that comes on and yet some artist I only want to hear a particular song. No can do with XM. Like you said, Delphi doesn't even have enough sense to give subscribers the ability to turn this feature off. From what I understand that is still the case with the latest release on the Roady XT. Amazing!

I have been out of the Sirius scene for about a year now. I bought the Skifi 2 for artist seek and rewind and gave my sportster to my brother in law. What Sirius radios have artist seek now? Will the S50 have artist seek? I was thinking about buying an S50 this Christmas. Do you know if it has sports scores and stock quotes like the skifi2?

I am not doubting that this is true and I had wondered for a long time why I wasn't getting any song seeks. But I just had two alerts today and I didn't re-set either of them. I wonder what the deal is?
