Default Repeater in Phoenix BLOWS!

How can the repeater here be SO terribly unreliable?

Maybe I just don't know enough about the technology but I get 1 second of music, 2 seconds of silence, .5 seconds of music... repeat repeat repeat.

It really, truly sucks.
I find myself listening to FM because the constant drops are SO annoying.

Then I ask myself "WTF AM I PAYING FOR?"

Noone at Sirius has been able to answer my questions about being unable to recieve a Sattelite signal while being within close proximity to the Repeater either, all I get from them is the typical canned response about antenna placement.

I did test my "Sat vs Repeater" theory in my wifes vehicle and sure enough we would have solid Sattelite signal in the suburbs & as we entered the radius of the Repeater the Sattelite signal went down as the Repeater signal went up until we recieved solid Repeater signal and NOTHING from Sattelite.

Note that this was in clear view of the sky, on the freeway with no buildings or trees around to block our Sat Signal.

Seems the people at Sirius don't know their products very well. (At least the people I have been able to talk to)

Yeah man, I have perfectly fine reception everyday listening to my Sirius in my office in downtown Phoenix. There is no window and I rely solely on repeaters. Today for the first time I am getting horrible reception, and Sirius says there is nothing wrong with the repeaters....although I already know they don't know what they are talking about, about 6 months ago the lady at Sirius said the closest repeater was in Las Vegas!! I guess we just need to flood them with calls and to let them know

Without really knowing your particulars, it sounds more like external interference.

All I know is everyday I have my Sirius receiver and antenna in my office on my desk on the second floor of a steel building. I usually get full terrestrial signal and no satellite signal in my office. Today for the first time, I am only getting three terrestrial bars on my signal and my signal fades in and out with the acquring signal message appearing on my receiver. I don't know if the weather plays a factor in this, but this is one of the first days it's rained during daytime and I happen to have no signal, terrestrial signals should not be affected by this, unless the repeater was struck by lighting or damaged by wind sometime last night. Let me know you what you think, it's hard to pass time at work without my Breuer Unleashed

I work in downtown Phoenix also.
I do have a window office though, a HUGE 6 ft by 6 ft window Facing directly North, which is the "optimal" direction for Phoenix.

I also get full Terrestrial signal (when it works) and NO Sat. signal.
This *must* be due to the presence of a Terrestrial signal.

I don't know if anyone here can pull any strings to inform the right person but at this point I would just about rather have the repeater here go away so I can recieve from the Sattelite, and actually recieve the service I am paying for.

Interesting. I was driving in the NW valley today (Where I live) plus Scottsdale and downtown Phoenix with only a couple of 1-2 second blips in reception. I wrote it off to the sats transitioning (Occurred when I was in areas with an unobstructed view of the sky.) The times I have looked, I normally am receiving the signal via the sats. As far as I can tell the Sirius repeater(s) seems to be fairly localized to the downtown area . I can understand the frustration with a bad repeater if that is your signal source. For what its worth, when I drive my wife's car that has XM, most of the metro Phoenix area has a strong terrestrial and sat signal. It would be my general impression Sirius could use another repeater in the Metro Phoenix area or, apparently, one that works. Could have saved me the trouble of needing to run my in home antenna outside - wife really likes it when I get the drill out and start punching holes in the house!

As others have said, squeaky wheels usually get the grease - call, write, complain long and loud until fixed. Out of curiosity, did this problem just start today with the rain? (Boy if 1/4 inch of rain causes problems in Phoenix imagine living in Seattle - I thinks that's about their daily yearly average.)

I noticed that yesterday it took an hour to get to work and an hour to get home, my commute is normally 30 minutes. A little water and nobody knows what to do.

I just got to work and I still am getting a very weak terrestrial signal. It seems to be stronger than yesterday, but still not nearly as strong as it is normally. I will let you guys know if my signal changes, but changes are if mine improves so will yours :\

Same problem here, no signal past 2 days and I am in Glendale. I have a starmate in my office and I rely on a terr. signal. I have 2 alpine HU in my cars and they work fine. I do believe XM has better reception here in Phoenix. A manager that is in the same building as I am but further inside with no windows has XM and has a better signal than I do and I hav e window. Sitting here watching and waiting for my receiver to catch a signal. FM radio sucks.

I know what you mean, the guy in the next office over has XM and he never has any problems.

I've been dancing around my office with the antenna for 2 days trying to catch a signal from this spot or that spot.
I've only been a Sirius subscriber for 3 weeks and I've had bad reception for about 30 percent of that span.

If you ask me that kind of service is far to unreliable to continue this subscription. The shame of it all is that if I cancel my subscription now I'm out about $400 in equipment that will become nothing more than pricey paper weights. :\

I'm having the same problem, and wondering if it was in-fact the storm that caused this. My Starmate Replay gets excellent reception in the car, but my XACT XTR7 is getting nothing at the office. I work in a single floor building with no windows near me. I've had no problem with reception since the end of September, but this week is another story. *Something* is going on, and I can only hope it gets resolved soon. Worst case, I listen online, but it'd be nice to use the radio.
