Default Why do some antennas have that plastic thing on the connect?

Why do some antennas have that square plastic thing on the connection?

I came across a cheap Terk antenna I want to use in my office with my new Xact Visor, but that plastic thing is in my way, can I cut it off?

FYI, it's called a FAKRA connector. Some of the earlier antenna had two of them. The plastic part makes it impossible to get wrong.

Congrats on figuring it out yourself.
