Default Connecticut Reception Issues - Merritt

I live in Bridgeport, CT and take the Merritt Parkway (Route 15) to work everyday. Reception is spotty at best. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I currently have a Sirius SV1 receiver.

I am going to be getting a new car shortly and was going to get the Sirius package. Will I have the same reception issues if I get it as part of my new car.

Thanks,
Steve

Doesn't the Merritt have a ton of trees on both sides? It might be better in the fall.

Take 95 or if you have to be on the Merritt, stay in the left lane, there is less tree cover.

I have travelled 95, 84, and the Merritt. I have my antenna on the rear driver's side so I mostly have a clear line of site to the sats.

I feel your pain! My reception is less then stellar when I'm on a the Meritt. Infact my reception is less then stellar in a lot of places in CT these days. Right around the time the trees were budding I was transitioning from my old car (X-act replay set up) to my new Jetta (factory installed sirius). Went from great reception too poor reception. I wondered if it was the new car or the leaves. This however confirms my suspicion that there are way to many trees in CT! On I-95 or any road that the trees don't create a canopy overhead I'm still good.

I really wish a Sirius would put some more repeaters in the area

I was wondering if I woudl get better reception with a factory installed radio on a new car (that I will be getting shortly). The frustrating part is that I have ridden in a friend's Acura TL and get gets great reception everywhere with XM. It never cuts out.

I think I may get a new antenna for my radio. Any suggestions? I have looked at the Terk SIR-Mini. I want to spend as little as possible as I am only going to have this radio for 6 months at most.

Also, I have a Ford Escape. Where is the best place to put the antenna to get the best reception?

When you look at the trees on the Merritt, I'm surprised reception is as good as it is. I travelled the parkway a couple weeks ago and I only had a couple dropouts the whole trip (New Haven to I-287).

I guess you are right about the trees. I am just looking to get the best reception. Today I decided to take 95 to work just so I wouldn't lose reception. It ended up taking about 30 minutes more to get to work but at least there were no no reception drops.

Will a new antenna help at all? I have a SV1 now with the antenna that came with the unit.

I don't think a new antenna will dramatically better your reception... You could try moving your antenna to the driver's side of the car and drive in the left lane. That'd probably help, but with trees overhanging the parkway, there's just no easy way around it. I doubt CT will cut all the trees down to help us get better reception

I frequent the Merritt, and there are more drop outs now that the trees filled in. Not only does 95 have no trees, but there are also TERR repeaters in New Haven, Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford, and Port Chester, NY...all close to 95. I don't know of any repeaters up along the Merritt. But I'd rather have a few drop outs than sit on 95!

Why take 15 at all? I travel 91 all the time and never have a problem. (I'm not allowed on the Merritt. My Silverado is too heavy.) Aside I've never had reception problems in Connecticut when driving.

Did you mean I-95? Cause I-91 and the Merritt are like comparing apples and oranges...
