Default Repeater down in Baltimore too?

Hey Guys,

I've been a lurker on SBS since I first subscribed to Sirius roughly 2 years ago, but I finally needed to join to ask about some trouble I've been having.

I work in an office building where I get a signal from a 'Ter' repeater. Today (Nov 2) I was listening to Stern and at about 7 am or so I got an 'Acquiring Signal' display on my radio. Still the same way now about 6 hours later. I checked with a co-worker who subscribes and he has the exact same scenario on his unit. Both of us have never had any issues like this in two years here. I took my unit to my car (plug and play) and checked to see if I got a 'Sat' signal, and I did. This leads me to believe a repeater is down in Baltimore. I saw that 11 repeaters were shut down last month, but that didn't affect me. I've read the nightmarish thread about what the people in Harrisburg are going through, and am wondering if anyone in Baltimore/ vicinity is having a similar problem?

This has been the LONGEST day of work without Sirius!

I just went into Baltimore today and couldn't get a signal on the Stiletto. I heavily rely on the terrestrial strength on the Stiletto!

Edit: I always go to the Baltimore Science Fiction Society Public Clubhouse (3310 East Baltimore St) and try to get a terrestrial signal in there, but despite being about 5 miles away, could not maintain it.

tonight i went to balto to a party. i live in olney, md. coming into balto from the south, taking 95north, i received the dreaded "acquiring signal" about 4-5 miles south of the city. no reception at all. i have a starmate replay and was worried about its overall health. on the way home, still no reception until about 10 miles south of balto then whammo, full signal strength again. i drove through the city last week on the way to new york and had no probs. glad to hear its not just me. glad i don't live in baltimore (for more reasons than you will know).

Default Baltimore IS having repeater problems today! But I can't get Sirius to believe it!

Yes! I'm glad it's not just me. I live in Baltimore and at 7:30am this morning (November 2), I went from crystal-clear Howard Stern to NO SIGNAL. And the terrestrial strength signal level on my S50 went way down! It's been that way all day. I have a separate tuner integrated into my car's head unit. I work in Baltimore and normally get a super strong signal in the car. Today, it was nothing but "Acquiring Signal" every five seconds! (It's still doing this as of 30 minutes ago!) My co-worker at work has a Sportster that normaly gets a solid signal. Today, it was nothing but "Acquiring Signal." I tried my S50 in a few locations today and it still couldn't get a signal. At home tonight, I docked it again. Still... NO SIGNAL. I missed any chance to hear the whole Stern show today because of this.

I called Sirius tonight. They keep trying to tell me that it sounds like a problem with my S50. Bull! I keep trying to tell them that it is a repeater problem, but they keep telling me that no one else has reported anything. Is there anyone else I should be calling other than general customer support?

Default Still bad this morning

Well, I had no signal yesterday as I left work (12:45) and still the same this morning as I came in. Actually it seemed like my signal was weak during my whole ride in from Harford Co. and once I got to TV hill I lost everything. I have the usual dropout spots but the past two days it's been more severe. I'd think it would be getting better with the leaves falling like crazy.

Hope this gets resolved soon.

This doesn't look good http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...ad.php?t=88878

It's definitely the repeater. I can't listen in my office anymore. This started yesterday morning. I have the service to listen to Howard at work.

This better be resolved soon or I will cancel as much as that pains me to say. It's not worth having if I can only listen in the car and at home.

This is unbelievable on Sirius's part.

First post. Wanted to chime in that I'm having problems in Baltimore as well. I travel from Perry Hall to Elkridge every day, and there is a dead spot from basically where 895 hits 95 on the east side to where the two roads meet again on the west side.

Near 4pm, I should have a confirmed answer. The repeater is on top of the Legg Mason building, and from first reports it was lowering wattage, but I didn't believe it. My Stiletto (down at Elkridge) cannot get a terrestrial signal on MD Rte100 like it usually does.

Interesting - my dad actually is the Cheif Engineer of that building. Will see if he has talked to any Sirius people.

I was thinking - we have a camera mounted up there, I wonder if one of our techs accidently knocked the feed out???

Thanks for those of you who are able to shed light on this. Sirius has been awesome, but living and working in the city, I can't get anything, even at home, and extremely spotty in the car.

For about a half hour this morning I had a very small SAT signal here at work, but that's long gone now... Probably because at that point there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

I haven't dealt with customer service yet, but I'm assuming from hearing from others they're just going to tell you your radio is broken or something. Although someone on the Harrisburg thread said that one of the customer service reps admitted that the FCC had to turn theirs back on... hope that's not what we're dealing with too.

Default LIVE in the city

As I posted in another thread, I LIVE 2-3 miles from downtown and my home dock (for the S50 I own) can barely get enough Terrestrial signal (doesn't get any Satelite because the antenna is on a window sill without view of the sky) to receive.

On my drive into work (in towards the city then up 83 to Timonium) I my signal cuts in and out the closer I get to downtown. Once I get a ways up 83 I can get the Satelite signal and reception is fine.

From what I have seen (I find it hard to belive they programmed/coded things this way) the Terrestrial (from the repeater) signal gets higher priority than the Satelite signal. Since this has started I have been driving with the 'Antenna Aiming' screen up and I can see that although I am getting 75% Satelite signal and 25% (the bars are only divided into 4ths) Terrestrial the reception still cuts in and out.

I haven't called Customer Service yet, but wonder if it will help matters the more of us that call in (like when the power goes out).

Yes, by all means, call in. They kept telling me when I called that I was the only one who reported it!
