Default Car Wash?

This may be a silly question, but I'm new to satellite radio. I've got the antenna mounted on the roof of my car, but need to get my car washed. Has anyone had any trouble with the car wash damaging the antenna or pulling it off the roof?

The car wash I go to has those long stringy like things that move back and forth as your car goes through. I don't know if they'd be strong enough to move the magnet, but I want to make sure before I go through the car wash.

I figure I'm not the first person to go through the car wash with a Siruis/XM antenna, but wasn't sure.

What kind of radio and antenna do you have? Some antennas have a black plastic strip for the antenna wire to be hidden. This strip has sticky tape on the underside that attaches to your roof or trunk. If you have this installed you shouldn't have any problem. I haven't. If not, the magnet could give way, but the car wash probably won't tear the antenna off and out of your car.

I don't think it'd be a problem unless you have real loose wire outside your car. even with car washes that touch the car like you described I don't think they grab teh car in a way that'll take the antennea off. As long as its secured with little excess slack in the wire, it should be good.

I wash my car weekly and have not had any problems with the antenna moving or otherwise. You shouldn't have any problems.

A TOUCHLESS car wash is better for your car and antenna.

I've got a Sportster Replay and I think it's the microdot antenna. It came with the plastic strip, but it's a company car so I wasn't going to use the sticky tape. The wire is run through the trunk and along the side of the rear window.

I've got an 04 Taurus, so there's no weatherstripping on the side of the rear window to tuck the antenna wire under. It's just run under the overlap of the edge of the window.

Don't feel so bad about using that plastic strip. It comes right off without damaging the paint if you need to un-install it. Dirt will collect around it, so you'll need to wash the area you put it on, but it's harmless, and will keep your antenna attached to your car.

I would run the wire through a space in between your back seat into the trunk and run the wire through up by the back window where it meets the trunk. The wire can go through the weatherstripping for your trunk. It will not leak. Then place the micro dot in the middle of your trunk nearest the back window just far enough out to cover the length of the plastic strip.

Works perfecto for me. Plus it looks professional and all that.
