Default rain

i have the sportster home kit and the only place i can get a signal for this basement is to place it outdoors and run the cable thru a little hole in the wall. will the elements (rain, cold,.....) destroy that antenna? any tips on a cheap way to weatherize it? thanks

The antennas are meant to be put outside. I suppose you could shield it with some plastic, but that will cause some attenuation to the signal, which may or may not affect your overall reception.

oh ok, i wasnt sure if those were meant to be indoors by a window and then there was a different one for the outdoors

Not generally. Assuming you have a decent signal in the first place. And that there's no leak in the cable or antenna for water to get into those.

I have my antenna outside. We get a lot of rain here. I feel confident saying generally wheather conditions do not effect my signal reception. Although I live in a mild climate on the norhtern California coast. Rain definately does not effect my signal.

I have my Sportster in the basement family room and have run the antenna out through the window well. Even with the window closed and the cable pinched as a result of that, with the antenna sitting out on the railing of the front porch, often sitting in a small puddle of standing water, there is no loss of signal or loss of sound quality.
