Default Home antenna in car

I have to go away on business with a co-worker this weekend and they are driving but wondering instead of buying a new antenna and uninstalling mine was thinking about taking my home kit antenna and setting it on the dash board, do you think this would work? Or, go to circuit city that charges $39.99 for a new antenna but that seems expensive just for me to be able to listen to the nfl on sunday (that is the reason i want to take it) or is there another place that sells them for cheap>

The home antennas in most home kits do provide more gain and several folks have commented that they work well in a car environment. The main reason for the extra gain is that these home antennas are directional. They are not omni-directional. This means the home antennas have more limited "peripheral vision" to the satellites. May or may not be an issue overall for reception, but could be, depending on your location, the satellite location and even the position of the car and antenna. Certainly worth a try. Let us know how it works out.

Circuit city will let you return things for 30 days. You can always buy it and return it after the weekend.
As for the home antenna, I used mine in the car the day I bought it (didn't have the car dock yet) and it worked pretty well. I had it stuck in my sun roof. Not sure it the directiion you are traveling will come into play since the home antenna sounds like it has a smaller angle where it supposedly works

Perhaps rhb2208 has more integrity than that.

When I was in Ohio I put the home antenna on the dash (passenger-side) of a rental Hyundai facing straight up and worked as well as a car antenna. If it worked for me, it should work for you.

I use my home antenna with the XTR8CK and it works very well. I have it sitting on the front part of the dash.

Thank you and yes I do, then I would have one for the future.

Everyone else thank you for your response, I actually did a test today and it worked, in fact I had fewer acquiring signal displays than usual. So again thanks everyone for the help.
