Default other ways to listen to Sirius at work?

I currently listen to Sirius via the internet during the day at work, but I'm about to start a new job where they dont want employees to stream audio over the internet.

Since I'm not guaranteed to get a desk where I'll have a view of outside and could use my Starmate receiver, does anyone have ideas of other ways to be able to hear Howard at work? For those that own a Stilleto, if theres a wireless connection available can it just use it or is a login/password required for whatever network it belongs to?

I've heard of people using PDA's or Smartphones to stream Sirius. Anyone have success doing that and what are the pros/cons of it?

Are there alternate players that could stream Sirius and lower the bitrate to keep it from showing up on the IT radar? Are there programs that can mask my IP so that the company couldnt tell that it was my computer which was doing the streaming?

Thanks!

The Stileto will pick up a wireless connection but, it your wireless connection is a secured connection you need to put the code in the Stileto.
It will not show up on the IT radar because it doesn't use your computer's
IP address.

Where I work I can not get a signal at all. And streaming is totally blocked.
So I record The Stern Show everyday then load it into my Ipod and listen that way. I'm a day behind but it works for me.

Dont' bother trying to hide your computer activity from your employer. Any IT department worth their paychecks will be able to figure out where it's coming from. And as for lowering the bitrate, if they could get the same quality across in fewer bits, believe me, they'd do it.

I also work in a place where streaming isn't allowed. I use my smartphone to stream from Sirius. I've got a T-mobile SDA (HTC Tornado), and I run SiriusWM5 for the stream. I've got my computer speakers connected to the headphone jack on the phone. It works great for the standard bitrate stream. However, the CD-quality stream pushes the limits of EDGE data speeds. With all bars lit up, I can almost get the 128 kbps stream without rebuffering, but not quite. If it were about 112 kbps, I'd have no problems.

As it is, I just use the 32 kbps stream, and live with the noticably degraded sound quality. It works for me...even if it's a bit of a hassle. The worst part is the shortened battery life. Of course the streaming itself is going to drain the battery. But the Sirius WM5 software seems to be a bit of a processor drain. If I kill the stream, but don't exit the program, my phone will stay hot and drain the battery in a few hours. So I absolutely have to keep the phone on a charger when I'm playing music. As I said, somewhat of a hassle.

Hope that helps.

Areodave is right even the Stiletto will show up on their activity monitoring software. But, it is a device they would have to find. They would have your Stiletto's MAC address and possibly the wireless access point your Stiletto was using. Which tells IT within X number of feet there is a wireless device using the network. They will look at who is in that area and try to find the wireless device ie: Your Stiletto.

Again this is why I record at home and use my Ipod.
