Default Denver troubles afoot

There is very obvious trouble with the Denver repeater.

My observations:

In areas where the repeater should totally dominate the bitstream voter (downtown) the signal is perfect. Indeed the SAT/TER display properly id's the source stream as TER and there is nil on SAT.

In areas where the repeater is uselessly weak (Longmont), the bitstream voter chooses SAT and copy is perfect.

It's the suburbs where the voter swaps back and forth to select the source stream in which there is trouble.

My instincts tell me there is an unusual delay occuring in the repeater which is putting the SAT and TER datastreams too far outta bed timing wise and the voters are losing bits.

XM is fine. I'm not trying to promote XM, but it's not right what Sirius is doing (or not doing, as it were). They should be more responsive with regard to this issue.

Uh... I'm going to go out on a limb here... I doubt the engineers at Sirius are sitting around on their butts right now.

As far as I can tell from the people on the phone, the engineers are doing exactly that. It would appear as though they don't have a flippin' clue. If there's work being done to correct these problems, give me some kind of hope before I give up and cancel. Actually I've already done that, but there may or may not be hope for the rest. Sirius should really be working on damage control right about now, but I don't think they have a clue what they're dealing with.

Default Switch to XM?

I'll give sirius a couple of weeks to resolve this problem, only because I love their programing and my subscription is paid through the 10th. But as I stated before, their programing does me no good if I can't get a decent signal. I want to continue having satellite radio in my car, so since XM doesn't seem to be having this problem, I will probably switch.

I agree. I've never have had an issue with receiving XM's signal.

Default Acquiring Signal

I've been a subscriber for a few years and the past month has been so bad I probably will not renew my subscription. Constant loss of signal is not worth it. I almost replace my radio but now I'll just rip it out and go to XM.

I spoke to the guy who hosts the money show at the radio station where I work. We're probably going to talk about this on the radio, probably making Sirius look really bad. It's not so much that this problem hasn't been corrected, but the lack of customer care from Sirius.

During my call yesterday, she said it wasn't a repeater (here in LA Downtown).
It had something to do with powerline intereferences.
DOn't ask....because I have no clue.

I think this is great, but I also think it's sort of funny...making Sirius look bad on terrestrial radio. Thought that would be easy. But seriously, I totally agree with getting the word out. It's really unfortunate that Sirius doesn't leverage technology more. In the case of repeater issues they could:
- Poll their database for subscriber emai addresses and send out a heads-up
- Post repeater and other subscriber info on their web site
- Actually monitor the repeaters themselves and put in backups at those locations.

On that last point, a few months ago Sirius was looking for someone to build a monitoring network for their terrestrial repeaters. I'm not sure if it's indicative that they all aren't monitored, or that just some are not. I know one around my area that was out for almost a month. I actually got through to someone there through some inside contacts. They kept saying it was up, and I was able to provide proof it was not. They fixed it two days later. Heck, if anything they could just give someone a free subscription in each of their repeater areas and ask them to fill out a report a few times a day via a web site. There are also plenty of RF and other monitors that can monitor repeaters and make a phone call back to someone who can fix it. From all the repeater reports, it's pretty obvious they still have an issue with monitoring the repeater status. A shame since it's pretty darn important to their coverage.

Let us know how the radio show goes!

I sure will. In fact, I c&p a bunch of posts from this thread and started a new "official" one that I'm going to take in there when I go back after Thanksgiving. I hope we can do something next week. The host mentioned something about doing a show abou the terrible customer service at Time Warner Cable. I think he was going to do a segment on Sirius that day too. I'll see if I can find out when it's going to be and post more details soon.

I need specific details about the calls some of you have made to Sirius and what the results were. Be as specific as possible.
