Default FM Direct Adapter w/Starmate 4

Sorry if this has been answered already. I ran a search and found nothing.

I just purchased and installed a Starmate 4 in my 2004 Chevy Malibu. Everything works great, except there is some distortion over the FM channels. At the recommendation of the Circuit City salesman, I picked up a FM Direct Adapter (model FMDA25). Well, the antenna jack on my factory radio is too small for the input on the adapter and the jack on the adapter is too large for my factory input.

Will someone direct me to where/how I can fix this problem, or if there is a better way to get a direct FM signal? I fear there is no AUX input on the back of my factory unit, so getting the best FM signal is the way to go for me.

Thanks in advance.
