Default fm mod & install in '01 Malibu

Crutchfield USA has the fm mod and the plug adapters (OF COURSE it can't be just one thing to order) for under $50 but does anyone know of a good company to order from in Canada? Future Shop, Best Buy and The Source (Radio Shack) are a no go.

any visuals/pics of how to do this project would be great too...

Remember the "good ole days" when plug and plays lived up to their designation? good times.... yes..... good times <tear>

2001 Malibu question continues... FINALLY broke down and bought a fm switch (why do people keep calling them modulators?) now does anyone know where the factory antenna plug is located? right behind factory radio? Glove box? any links to pics would be GREAT!

just talking to myself here eh? Mods.... might as well remove this thread. lol... SUPER easy job... switch & antenna adapters were easy peezy to install. trim only has four clips... even was able to clean up the install....

I'm still using the aux c.l. socket just in case I want to easily swap out the dock and put it in my van. Too bad there wasn't an option to use the stilettos antenna while in the dock. I'm just keeping the dot antenna on the dash as with our winters and harsh car washes I don't want to install the "dot" on the exterior.

By "adapters", do you mean the ones that convert the fairly standard motorola antenna plug to the similar but smaller connector? WHere did you buy those and how much were they? Thanks! Glad your install went smoothly.

Hey, we have the same car, but I have a sportster replay in mine. I've been bugging my car enthusiast husband to put in an aux input so I can run my mp3 player and sirius. I might as well do it myself.

Default easier than I thought

good ole future shop... $30 for the fm adapter, $15 for oem to motorola and $15 motorola to oem (we're talking canadian dollars gang). It looked cheaper to buy from the states but after exchange rate, border fees/travel hassle.... Future Shop was fine. Besides... if it didn't work I would be able to easily return everything without shipping expenses.

Aux line adapter for oem deck was INSANE in price at the local shops. Future Shop had a aux unit and harness that was going to cost over $200!! would be interested to see how much of a difference it would have really made. Must say that my stiletto sounds REALLY good now and I was able to reattach my exterior fm antenna again with no static WHATSOEVER!!

DO IT!! was sooooooo easy..... didn't need any tools to remove the ignition bezel or the trim. just a 9/32 socket for the radio screws. lot's of "tucking" room for the fm switch and adapters (oem to motorolla and back) on the glove box side.
