Default Dead Replay display, and I'm probably out of luck!

I've had my Sportster Replay since June... A month ago, the BAND button went dim, followed by the 3. Tonight, I power it up and the display backlight starts flickering and it ultimately goes out. You can still read the LCD, mind you - just no backlight. If I smack the top of the unit hard enough it will come back on for a while.

I bought this thing at Radio Shack at a deep discount... Unfortunately, the store I bought it from was going under and said deep discount was from their going out of business sale. I was under the impression from the folks at the store when I bought it that "all sales are final" and this unit couldn't be returned to another Radio Shack.

Of course, I can not seem to find my receipt for this thing at the moment... I have given a copy of it to Sirius though, as I sent in a rebate form and got the check a few months ago.

So, anybody have any idea whether if I call Radio Shack's number I found earlier here if they'll help me or tell me I'm stuck with it?

What a bummer, my old Sportster worked ok except for the knob being a bit iffy, and that thing was beat all to heck. I tried my best to take care of this new one, not a scratch on it, and look what happens.

The problem you describe has affected others with the same radio, and also those with the similar Streamer Replay.

It is covered under warranty, and you will need the receipt. You indicate that Sirius would have the receipt from the rebate. Typically it's a contracted rebate company that processes the rebates, so that probably will not be a source for the rebate.

You could try the Radio Shack route, but they are very unforgiving...at least my local store was. But it couldn't hurt asking them.

If it were me, I'd call Sirius and explain the situation. I think I heard where they cover the Radio Shack warranties, and perhaps they'd do a warranty replacement for you based on the date of the activation. It's always worth asking. They may or may not admit that the displays going bad has been a problem.

If it's of any solace, BestBuy will be selling those radios on Friday for $50, so if you have the cash and one of those stores nearby, that may be an option. I'm thinking of getting one just as a spare.

Yes, but watch out as the new generations of Sportster Replays have a very weak FM Transmitter.

That's what really stinks, the old Sportster has just enough power with the transmitter to work 95% of the time... I have no problem getting the antenna adapter thingy, I've thought about and came close to getting it.... But I really don't want to scratch anything up in the new car installing that thing.

Just called Radio Shack at 800.843.7422, they were most helpful.. :| They said I need to take it to a store....

I'll give Sirius a buzz and see what they say. Otherwise, I may be fighting the crowds on Friday.

Thanks for the input folks! I'll keep ya posted.

Woo hoo! I called Sirius, told them about my problem... They asked which cradles I was seeing the problem with... A few minutes later I got their warranty contact number and an offer to add a free receiver to my account! lol... No thanks for now, I just want this one fixed.

Gave the warranty center a call and explained the situation. They apologized for the problems with my equipment and gave me the options for replacement. Cool!

What kind of shape is the refurb stuff in usually? Just wondering what to expect with the "new" unit. lol!

Finally got my replacement Replay back yesterday, woo hoo! It looks to be a brand new unit, can't complain about that. Or if it was a referb, they did a pretty good job at making it look new.

I started missing my old one the second I put this new one in the cradle though. This one has a very crippled FM transmitter, I've heard many lousy FM transmitters but this one takes the cake. I used to use 87.7 MHz, this one only goes down to 88.1. Every frequency I tried when I put it in the car, I could barely what the radio was playing over the static. It's simply horrible! So much for using my radios throughout the house too, if I put the radio directly next to the Sportster, I STILL can't hear the audio. Stupid FCC! lol

I figured this would happen, so I'm already all set for the car, I installed the FM direct adapter last night. It sounds great!

I still have to call Sirius though, they didn't give me an address or any sort of information at all about where I need to send my broken one to.

Oops! I called them to verify the address and toook the thing to the UPS store over the weekend. I still haven't received the sticker yet. Which, I guess I'm out eight bucks but hey, the way my luck runs Sirius would have sent the sticker to me on the 28th of my 30 days so I'd not be able to get the old one back in time. lol!

But *sigh* the NEW Replay they sent me is starting to have the same exact problems as the one I just shipped back. The jump and 6 buttons suddenly became more dim than any of the other buttons on the unit. Not good!

Hopefully Sirius warranties the equipment they send out... Otherwise I'll be looking for a different tuner and just bite the bullet and pay for it. I've always loved the Sportsters, but this version seems to be a piece of crap! *sobbing*

Default New Radio No FM Transmitter at all

I just got a replacement sportster replay because the LCD died, then the radio died. After waiting 1 month I got it.
Now the FM transmiter of the new/refurbished radio won't broadcast 2 feet to another radio sitting next to the boom box, this sucks!
