You're sorely misinformed. The FCC most definitely has control over anything that radiates RF, right down to the FM transmitter inside the Sirius radio. I don't know who fooled you into thinking that. Check your facts before you blindly shoot out a statement like that.

The comment I made was with regard to RF issues and intermittent signal. I have never had a problem with Sirius programming.

They (FCC) don't regualte the content and I hope that never changes.

Default Problems in Seattle

I hooked up to Sirius the end of November. Was getting good reception. On about 12/13-14, the two radios I had purchased (one at home; one at office) both quit picking up a signal.

I can relate to almost every email posted about this problem, as I've spent more time that I care to admit trying to convince Sirius that this is a Sirius problem, not a user problem. But they said it was my antenna placement, even though both radios worked perfectly until 12-13.

TS said they had heard nothing going on in Seattle, so there was nothing more they could do for me, other than sending me a signal (which was never received). But what I could do for them is cancel my subscription, which I did yesterday.

I'm not sure about complaints to the FCC, but going to the consumer fraud division of your respective state attorney general might be a good start. And probably a class action lawsuit wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

This really pisses me off.
Thanks for starting this thread, I wish to hell I would have come to this site before I bought about $450 worth of radios.

Cool

Hey all,

Well I am basically having the same damn problem as everyone else here in the Atlanta Area.. Had full signals and now I am getting more drops than ever. I drive to work about 7 miles and I lost count how many drops I had.

Now something interesting, my wife has a Garmin Forerunner GPS, you know the ones that tracks your runs and bike rides and such. Just recently the satellite signal went to crap and now it has a hard time to connect to the satellites.

Very odd.

Default Aquring signal

I have had this problem for 2 days, i can not get anything on my receiver except
"aquiring signal ". I called customer care and have been hung up on 8 times. The response I get is that we are having "a ton" of calls on this issue and by the way your radio is broke go buy a new one. And the 2 docking station's for you cars aslo are not compatable with the new receivers. So I will be out 250.00 in new equipment for a radio that is exactly 2 years old. If this does not get resolved in a fair way I will be calling my friends in the media and consumer affairs.

I gave up on Sirius too. Repeaters down, junk electronics, new radios incompatible with docking stations. And then to add insult to all that, when I did cancel, it took two weeks and several phone calls before I got my refund. They have the nerve to spam call asking if I want to add a radio to my service? And then another call asking if I've reconsidered my cancellation? I don't really miss it that much, but it was nice while it worked.

Default Losing signal in STL as well

I have Starmate Replay and like several of you have reported, I too am recieving the "aquiring signal" message with full signal bars showing. This is rather confusing and frustrating. I attempt to reboot it but, the signal never returns and screen just flickers every so often. I have read all of the posts here this evening and I will be contacting tech support tomorrow on the matter and will update this forum on the service I recieve. Thank for all of the postings they have been helpful

Is anyone else in the Los Angeles are experiencing the signal dropout issue again? I had no signal on the 10 east heading all the way to Downtown LA. Even when parked, I still get no signal, but get the occasional "burp" when I hear something, but get the "Acquiring Signal" message again.

Default FREQUENT Signal Dropouts in Atlanta, GA - December 13, 2006 to Present

I live in Atlanta, GA, and I have had FREQUENT "Acquiring Signal" messages over the past week.

I thought my beloved Sportster Replay was dying with a clear sky and no satellite signal obstructions.

I ran out to the store tonight and couldn't get my radio working (sportster replay), just kept saying "acquiring signal". Checked all connections, moved antenna, reseated in dock...eventually it would go back and forth between 1 bar and "acquiring signal", but I never got any audio. I came home and put it in my home dock, and it worked fine...I will try in the car again tomorrow and hopefully it will be back to normal. I'm in SE MA btw.

Post solar flare and reception

i too feel your frustrations with the satellite signal dropouts. i own a sportster, and i've never had problems with reception untill recently. some of the problems that we might be experiencing could be due to an increase in solar flare activity. recently we saw a huge x-flare on december 8th, and then again on dec 14th. i work in the gps field and i know these events have huge impacts on our accuracy and signal availability, so i also think they may correlate to disruptions in satellite radio communication (gps and sat radio i believe are in the same band, L-Band). i can't say for sure, because the signal problems seem to be erratic, but I wouldn't be surprised if the flare(s) contributed to the problems we are seeing. hope this info helps!

You may be right, but I'm a dual sub and never have had issues with XM.

My service has also been bad lately here in Melbourne, FL. A week or two ago I noticed I was getting only 1 bar on my sportster replay and it was taking longer than normal to acquire the signal when I first turn it on. Today, driving home from work, it couldn't get a signal at all until I was turning into my neighborhood. Even on top of the damn causeway! We don't have any repeators here, so a broken one of those wouldn't have been the problem. Florida is flat, I pretty much got full signal always until recently.

I wonder if one of their satellites is broken...

Looks like my car antenna crapped out. Good excuse to upgrade to the SIGMA.

edit: holy crap..just spent 50 minutes being transferred between 10 different numbers...trying to get a new antenna under warranty...finally ended with them saying "we don't have any info, you need to fax your proof of purchase to us"...god. what crappy service.

About what time of day does this occur?

Where is your antenna mounted?

Yesterday it was at about 5:30pm. It's been bad any time all day, but seems to be worse after work (and yesterday was the worst yet).

The antenna is mounted where it always has been: on the roof of my car (Honda Accord), about a foot from the back window.
