Unhappy

I have come to the conlclusion that there is absolutely NO COMPARISON to XM's reception. Sirius DOES NOT have the signal reception that XM does. Signal continues to DROP not only here but all across the country. Seems that either the receivers are faulty or Sirius wants the revenue from every one purchasing different antennas etc. chasing the signal. At this time I will not be able to recommend that anyone purchase ANY Sirius equipment. I have sent emails, made phone calls and Sirius has not responded. If I can ever get in touch with someone from Sirius I'd be willing to let them send me another antenna or replace the Starmate R ST2 in an attempt to resolve the drop out problem. Also no one can tell me if the 115 F to 130 F temperature is the normal operating temperature.

I agree that it is frustrating. I think I've finally solved my home antenna issue by placing the antenna facing West with a fairly unobstructed West/Northwest view. I've tried just about every other location around the house (I've got the holes in the walls to prove it) but this one appears to be best. It also is the direction the Sirius recommends... go figure!

Note that I've never had a signal problem in my cars in the Mid-Atlantic region. Drove to NY and CT last week with no problems whatsoever.

I think XM's stationary satellite strategy may work better in some cases. I have heard that depending on the terrain, Sirius is better (because of the higher satellites), but I can't speak for that.

Sirius radios do run VERY hot. I just try and ignore it.

Unhappy SF/Peninsula Reception - Spotty at best

The reception from Skyline Blvd. Woodside to SFO has been horrible for over a year. I have the Sportster hardwired with a PIE adapter, after trying the FM modulator, with no luck. The antenna is mounted on top of the roof. Is this an isolated problem? The signal drops in and out on top of the coastal mountains and the same on 101, up and down the peninsula, with no apparent obstructions. We just purchased a vehicle that came with XM pre-installed and it works great with no drop-out in these areas. It even works in the garage, but it's still XM...

Same issue with the home antenna. Lots of redwood trees around and the signal is only good on and off for an hour or so. I understand the satellite is not stationary, but living on top of a mountain and the signal is only usable in the morning for an hour (Howard interupptus) and on and off in the afternoon makes for an unacceptable use in the home.

Post OC and LA (CA) Signal strength are great!

I’ve had my Sirius tuner connected to my Alpine HU since Christmas, about two weeks now with the antenna mounted to the roof. I’ve had a few drop outs here and there that only lasted for a second or two. I took a little trip to Griffith Park this past Thursday to view the DWP Christmas lights. I took the 5 all the way down from OC and only had a single drop out right by the Los Felis exit. I expected the signal to be gone while driving thru the lights display because of the heavily wooded areas but only lost signal once. That’s completely acceptable to me.

I broke down tonight and bought a new Monster Cable Sirius antenna at Fry's. After giving my old antenna a good once over I realized that it's shredded toward the base. So far so good with the new one.

I moved from the SF Bay Area in July and I can vouch for the reception on hwy 280 / Skyline Blvd being spotty until Westmoore Ave. But it always cleared up for me. Maybe we're all noticing the difference in the power output of the ground repeaters.

Are there a lot of towns out there with tunnel repeaters? Those are my favorite

I've found my problem: my car antenna is going bad. I took my home antenna out to the car and got perfect reception with it. The annoying part is that the antenna is fairly new. I bought it last July when I got my new car. I don't have the receipt for it anymore, but is there a warranty on them?

Angry Toronto, Ontario,Canada

I just received the Stiletto 10 for Christmas(probably a week before). Sitting still the signal seems great and strong. As soon as I move the unit, it'll lose the signal and search for it. I don't have any 'extra' antennas as the unit is supposed to be 'fully portable'. I work about a half hour walk from my house and I work in the downtown core of Toronto. To take this walk to work, using thier so generously provided antena earphones, SUCKS BALLS. I can't get a signal strong enough to keep from cutting out every ten minutes for about a minute and a half. The worst is that no matter how much I love the system itself, and the programming, it just frustrates me to listen to it. Thank Sirius for the internet stream otherwise I would be really pissed and when I start back at work and have to be indoors for two months, they will be getting daily calls from me for sure.

That was exactly what I was afraid would happen and the reason I won't buy a Stiletto. It's currently 11:05 am in Chicago, sunny and clear, and I'm getting the intermittent 'acquiring signal' message since I turned my radio on at 6:30 this morning. This is f-ing ridiculous. These guys should have a class action suit against them at this point with all the posts on here regarding the same issue.

I'm in T.O as well. I'm having the same problems. My unit was in my car for 5mths, not a single dropout, now every other minute the pos is aquiring a signal. I'm going to try and replace this garbage antenna.

Angry Outside Philly--"Acquiring Signal" for 2 weeks now

I live in S. NJ outside Philly and have had NO SIRIUS for going on 2 weeks now. It's says "Acquiring Signal." THAT'S IT--NO SOUND, STATIC, ANYTHING. (I have the Sportster Replay.)

By the way, this is the SECOND time. It happened in June--"Acquiring Signal" for 2 weeks straight and I had them send me a new radio. Was fine til now. My 1 yr. subscription is up next week and I don't know what to do, it is beyond infuriating.

I had some trouble in Chicago with my s50 a few weeks back, but I played with the antenna (I use a car antenna) and it went away. But, today my wife said that the car is now having reception problems. We rarely get signal drops in the city b/c of terrestrial signals. Anyone else in Chicago noticing anything lately?

Edit: I see people have been....a couple of posts up)
