I went to that website and I didn't see any reason as to why wouldn't be getting a good signal at our locale. According to the map, we should have some of the strongest signal from the satellites.

Called Sirius general number - described the problem and was told to call "Technical Support" @ 800-869-5187.

After some runaround with a couple people (trying to blame 'tall buildings', radio stations, etc), I was put on hold while the CSR talked to her boss. She came back on the line and told be that is sounds from what I'm describing like a repeater is down in my area. The crazy thing is, she has no way of telling me if a repeater is indeed down or not. She said if it was a repeater, it can usually take a week or two to get someone out to fix it - but again, she can't even confirm to me that there is a problem in the first place!!

I asked her "Well - If you aren't even aware that there is indeed a repeater issue in St. Paul, how will it ever get fixed?" I told her to "consider it down", based on my report. All she could suggest was having "everyone I know that is having an issue in the St. Paul area to call them up". She said that is the only way to get them to look into this further. Great customer service.

It sounds like you St. Paul people better start calling - and hopefully that's enough people to force them to get out here and fix this thing.

I sent an email to their "support" address and got a reply back that it is my antenna!?!? TWO different units, TWO different cars, TWO different ages of receivers and BOTH of them decide to go south at the same time...! And on top of that, the several people that have written into this forum from the same geographic area that have the SAME issue at the same time!?!?!
I sent them a reply that basically said, "GO CHECK YOUR END"

Okay, I called the support line and reported the same thing. They said that most likely one of the repeaters in the area is out. They were going to check into it and that I should call back in 24 hours.

Someone else in the TC area should call now...

Default Poor Signal and Sound Quality in Monterey Calif.

Jan. 10, 2007

I live on the Monterey Peninsula in California. Today in particular I noticed that my S50 in the Car has alot of static and a very poor sound quality.
I even tried moving the antenna around to different spots and even drove my Car to other areas. Still no luck today...
Anyway I spoke with someone from Sirius and was advised that poor signal quality can happen from time to time because of the posistion of the satellites and because of different things with Mother Nature. Not sure what that means.

My Sirius Radio in my house. (Audiovox) with an external antenna mounted outside has no problems with signal and never has had any problems.
Is it possible that some of the newer Recievers and Radios being made nowadays just don't have the same quality or strength of recieving signals as did the older models? I don't know.... Well that is all I have to say for now.... Wishing everyone all the best for 2007......

This is apparantly the 2nd level 'technical support' number: 800-869-5187. I was passed on to this number after calling their main line.

Get this..I got another email from support saying that the issue is probably a "new" radio station that is on the same FM frequency I am using for the transmitter. Uh.... I doubt that. No idea how they figure how a new radio station would make the receiver say "aquiring signal"??????

BTW I called the normal Sirius number 888-539-7474.

That is the first number I called as well - and they tried to tell me the same thing. However, they never bothered to ask first if I am even using an FM transmitter (which I am not). That is when they gave me the other phone number for 2nd level support.

2nd level support's first answer to me was that is must be due to some 'tall nearby buildings' in the downtown St. Paul area.

Default St. Paul Drop outs

Okay, so today while driving in, I left the screen on signal strength.

Things were off and on while driving around south Maplewood. Bouncing satellite strength and no terrestrial. Once I got on I94 at McKnight, both satellite and terrestrial disappeared completely. No signal at all until I got off at Snelling, then BANG, both Sat and Ter went to 100% and stayed there as I drove north on Snelling.

I suspect that they do indeed have a repeater problem and it seems to be localized in the St. Paul East side area.

Anyone else can verify this? I have not seen any posts from the Minneapolis side, I suspect they don't have this problem.

I work in a large complex just off McKnight and 94, and that would back up what I have seen. Little to no Ter strength, and middling satellite strength (although I did have a full bar yesterday during lunch in my car).

You people are all correct. I am seeing the same things at the same locations in St. Paul. I have sent an email to my contact at Sirius. I was able to get her info while I was complaining about a repeater issue in Minneapolis a long time ago. It was fixed the next day. She has resolved a few other repeater issues in Minneapolis since then. I am not saying this will be the case with this one, but she seems to know what is going on. Keep your fingers crossed. Amazing how much we all rely on Sirius huh!?!

Yep, we're on the East side of St. Paul and, as described above we're having these problems but when my wife takes the portable to her office in Minneapolis it's full on in both sat and ter signal strength.
