Thumbs down

I did a bit more driving around in St. Paul. On the way home last night, I paralleled the freeway along Pierce Butler and then followed behind the Capitol. The signal was in and out from about Lexington to Marion, and then disappeared totally from the Capitol east to Hwy 61. I picked up a spurious signal again at about 61 and Warner all the way home to South Maplewood. I used to be able to sit in the car in the garage and have no issues at all with signal. Now there is nothing.
On the way to work today, I drove along the south side of 94. The signal was in and out up to Burns across from Sunray and then dropped out completely. I took Burns to Warner and the signal was gone altogether (what I mean is that there was no satellite or ter signal at all). At about Chestnut and Shepard I picked up a very strong satellite signal which stayed with me all the way through Victoria, Ayd Mill, Snelling. But the interesting thing was that is was 100% satellite, no ter signal at all. Which meant that when I hit a single bridge, I lost it for a second and then it came back. Once I hit Snelling and 94, both the Ter and Sat signals went full strength.

Again, it is obvious that they have a problem. Why aren't they doing something about this? Why don't they admit they have a problem instead of shipping people new radios, new antennas and telling them to change FM frequencies?

I'm calling everyday to complain. If they don't have it resolved by Monday, I am seriously considering canceling my two yearly contracts. On top of that, I think I'm going to hang out at Best Buy and tell people looking at satellite radios what is going on.

This company's record for service and customer care sucks big time.

I called (once again) customer service and I didn't even give them a chance to tell me about bad antennas and just launched into how we are all losing the same signal area etc etc...Can you believe that their records still show NO PROBLEM in St. Paul!?!?! They show their repeaters and everything fine and working!!!

The service rep said that he bumped it up to the next level of paper pushers. There is no time line as to when they will get it fixed, no idea as to if/how/when they will even IDENTIFY a problem. He did say that ONCE it gets fixed, I can call back and get credit for the time I could not use the radios. So, let's see...two weeks, a month? In reading the other threads Sirius does not seem to work fast on fixing these types of issues.

If you are having an issue in St. Paul, CALL THEM.

Got a new Sportster 4 for Christmas and figured my original problem was likely equipment related. NOT! Since I activated, which took 5 phone calls, I have nothing but major static. I was assured that as soon as my cloud cover cleared out I'd be hearing Sirius crystal clear. Well, that didn't happen either. Wrote emails, made phone calls and tried to research what I was doing wrong.....then I found this website. I guess I'm not crazy afterall. Just still frustrated. If I really wanted to burn my money I'd have done just that in the fireplace!
I'm surprised there isn't more on this thread about the Philly area. I'm also in western Philly suburbs (south of West Chester) and can get intermittently great reception (estimate 50 percent of the time). If you drive towards Philadelphia, however, the signal drops out around Media, Pa. and it's goodnight from then on: nothing, sweet f.a. The service is TOTAL BOLLOCKS and a complete rip-off. I read that the Philly AND the Wilmington repeaters were down as of Nov. '06 because the FCC had told Sirius to shut them down. So why no official announcement/apology/explanation from Sirius. What the hell are people around SE Pa. supposed to do? And more important, what is Sirius actually DOING about it except keeping its mouth shut while more benighted innocents send in their subscription money and fork out for their virtually USELESS radios?

As someone else noted, we shouldn't feel grateful when the signal does come in. It should be there, the whole damn time, just like we paid for it to be.

Sirius's 'antenna problem' response is so pathetic you have to laugh. Actually, no you don't: you have to sue. Perhaps some investigative reporter should look into it and expose this farce. If I buy a box of cookies I expect a box full of cookies, not a couple of broken cookies and a few crumbs.

Hello? Sirius? Anybody?

Angry ...Acquiring Signal...Portland, OR

I noticed the problem on January 2nd after a two week vacation. I get more "Acquiring Signal" than Howard Stern. Very frustrating. I have checked, re-checked, and triple checked all my connections, antenna location, etc..
I'm glad I found this forum & thread and take some comfort in knowing that I'm not the only one with this Sirius problem (pun intended). I'm at a point where it doesn't make sense to keep my subscription as I'm only getting about 2-3 minutes a day of reception.

My next step is to hound Sirius about this issue.

Thanks for taking the lead.

Hello? Sirius? Anybody?
Ammonite - although there are some comments in this thread about the Wilmington/Philadelphia area, there are more here:
http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...t=88884&page=4

Between the threads, though, the frustration poor reception and poor CS is consistent.

Well, I fired off a nasty snail mail letter to the president (James Meyer, 121 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020) to complained about the crappy customer "service" and reception issues.

Default No signal outside Philly

I've had no significant signal 20 miles north of Philadelphia for over 2 weeks now. Once and a while I get about 30 seconds of Howard before I see the Acquiring Signal message which is enough to tell me its not my antenna...

This morning 1/12, driving through St. Paul, same problems as all week. Ran some errands over lunch at about 11:30, and expereinced no problems at all.

It appears the problem has been fixed.

I live in Lower Bucks and am having terrible problems with Sirius. I received a Sportster 4 for Christmas, installed and activated it the same day. To date, I have listened to a total of about 10 minutes of programming. The rest of the time I see Aquiring Signal or Antenna Not Detected. I have spent several HOURS begging for help from Sirius to no avail.

Need advice - should I tell them to cancel my service at the end of the cycle, aggressively fight them for a full refund of what I have invested, or just sit tight and hope/pray for it to get better?

I had the same problem with my Sportster Replay. If you bought it through Sirius call 800-422-7142 and ask for e-commerce dept. and tell them the receiver is defective and you want a new one. Otherwise take it back to the store where you bought it and return it for a new one. I was told the problem is a defective receiver and so far the new one has been much better.

I think some of you people with similar problems need to find some common denominator for your problems.

I just don't understand.

My area does not have 1 single repeater and I have NEVER lost the signal except for under a bridge. Heavily tree lined narrow streets... no problem. I used to live in the West subburbs of Philly near Media.. There's no tall buildings.. Why you would lose the satellite signal is beyond me.

Do you all have the same radio and it is defective?
Have you all tried a new antenna?
Tried a different car dock?
Your antenna is on the roof right?

I mean, I can understand how poeple who listen inside or have their antenna on the dash board might have problems if repeaters are shut off. But as you drive around town, especially around Media, West Chester, Bucks, etc.... you should have a great satellite signal.

What is going on?

Where in Houston do you live? I live inside the loop and have a strong repeater signal. Where is your antenna located?

Regardless, there should be nothing wrong with reception in Houston as long as your antenna is properly placed.
