Default Philly Again

Well, last night I posted I had no signal here in South Jersey. This morning I wake up, and it's fine. I don't get it.

called customer service about repeater info-- was on hold for about 15 mins and they came back and said "we're not showing any repeaters down"

i responded with "i've had a solid signal in my house for four weeks, and it went out this morning-- it works fine in my car, and i know a few people this has happened to. i can't see any other explanation"

he kinda just bought some time and said that if a repeater's down it should be back in 24 hours so call back if there are any problems then.

?

Still no signal from the Philly repeater and I'm right across the river (camden on the water front)

This really sucks ass, I just got my wife her own unit and she can't use it in the house without opening a f'in window to place the antenna (and it's really freaking cold)

I live in N/E Philly(19124) As of 11:25AM Sunday morning it is still not working. I called Sirius and told me there was no problems with repeaters in the area. She also told me to put anttena on the roof. I live in a row house and it's 20 degrees outside-I don't think so!!!. I have anttena going through the window inside the house. I never really have a problem until now. I'mt paying all this money and listening to 610 WIP!!!

Thumbs down Very upset with my Sirius S50 and its poor Quality signal strength

21.01.2007 Monterey Peninsula California

Well I am back again to post my updated news about my Sirius Car Radio model S50.
I have spoken with so many Tech. support people from Sirius that it seems like I myself work for this company. Anyway I was told to try a Cassette Adapter to directly plug the signal from the S50 to the Cars Radio. That didn't work.
I was then told to try to hard wire the S50 directly into the Car Radio. Again that also didn't work.
I have 2 Satellite Antennas on my Acura. One is mounted outside of the Car and its that little Micro type Antenna from Sirius. With the Micro Antenna I don't pickup any strong satellite Signal. Its very very week.
With my big Satellite Antenna (the type made for the Home use) I am getting a perfect signal. Very strong.....
Sirius Tech. support gave me a list of different FM Frequencies to try on my Cars Radio and I have tried every one of them.
The sound quality is so Poor and I get alot of static.. Was then told it maybe a Repeater issue.... Well what is it then?
My old Sirius Audiovox Home Radio works perfectly. Perfect signal and great sound... Have spoken with other people in my area who have Sirius Recievers in the Cars and many of them have the same problems.... What is going on?
Its so sad and upsetting to me when I want to listen to the Awesome stations offered my Sirius but can't..... Anyone else in California's central coast experiencing this problem?

Angry Another Philly Listener

I'm just west of Philadelphia (Delaware County) and no Philly repeater signal since Friday. Called Sirius support and they just didn't get it, just kept telling me which direction to aim my antenna. Ugh!!

I read that the Philly AND the Wilmington repeaters were down as of Nov. '06 because the FCC had told Sirius to shut them down. So why no official announcement/apology/explanation from Sirius. What the hell are people around SE Pa. supposed to do? And more important, what is Sirius actually DOING about it except keeping its mouth shut while more benighted innocents send in their subscription money and fork out for their virtually USELESS radios?

As someone else noted, we shouldn't feel grateful when the signal does come in. It should be there, the whole damn time, just like we paid for it to be.

Sirius's 'antenna problem' response is so pathetic you have to laugh. Actually, no you don't: you have to sue. Perhaps some investigative reporter should look into it and expose this farce. If I buy a box of cookies I expect a box full of cookies, not a couple of broken cookies and a few crumbs.

Hello? Sirius? Anybody?
I drive back and forth from Havertown to West Chester every day, mostly along West Chester Pike, and I get a good signal everywhere, with the exception of a brief stretch on Marple Road (maybe 10 seconds). I have a Sportster Replay and standard antenna on my car.

If you mean listening to some ditzy (probaly blonde) rep tell me how the sats orbit and I should move my antenna around and find the "Happy Place" then yes I have called tech sup.

It really sucks that there's no web page for outages or a repeater status, and to make matters worse tech sup won't even admit that there's a repeater issue.

How do you guys know there are repeater problems, without calling cust svc??

and on the note of customer svc....let me tell you a quick story on how dumb they are......

I got my sportster replay in oct '06. I used the FM transmitter in it. I had no probs with it. I DID have to use that little di-pole antenna that came with it that you had to plug into the fm out port. for xmas, i got my fiance' a sportster replay, and my dad & stepmom both a sirius one (wasnt sure if they'd like sirius, so i got them the cheapies....yea, i got them hooked on it now) well, my fiance's sportster didnt come with that di-pole antenna. well i called sirius, it took me 2 days and 4 operaters. NO ONE knew what i was talking about. I kept telling them i needed the little black antenna, they kept saying i was talking about the fm mod. I kept telling them no. well after 2 days, an operator said she knew what i was talking about, appologized for the past troubles i had, and said she would send them out right away. Well the next day, went to hook up my dad's and step moms.....same thing, no di-pole. Back to cust svc again..this time the guy said he was sorry, said will send 2 more parts out, free of charge again, and gave me a $20 credit on my acct, since i had 4 radios activated. 2 days later i have 2 boxes on my door step. would you believe they sent me THREE FM MODS free of charge??!! well i got $60 worth of eqipment and a $20 credit thanx to their stupidity. and now all my sirius units will sound great no matter what car or unit I have....

THANX SIRIUS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Question VW Passat factory Sirius linking oftern near bare trees

My biggest surprise joining the SIrius community is that my new factory installed VW Passat radio is often dropping signals and linking when it looks like we are in a clear area. The only pattern is that there are bare trees around, sometimes with overhead branches. Can this block an otherwise open signal path??

If yes, can I replace the factory unit with a dedicted sirius reciever hardwired to a Sirius ready CD/reciever, to reduce teh bare spots?

Will I get better reception from a new antenna?

Should I complain to the dealer/service about a possible antenna fault?

Help is clearly apreciated

Default Philly Listener

I'm also a South Jersey listener and my signal has been down for a day or two now. This happened a while back and someone said it was the repeater. Both times I believe it occured during real bad weather. Last time I think it was a major thunderstorm and this time I think it was the extreme winds. Not sure why they haven't fixed this yet. Last time it was only down for about ten hours.
