Default repeater prob in NYC

I'm on upper east side of NYC. For the past year received a strong signal inside my apartment, with my antenna located inside my closed stereo cabinet. Never a problem. Two days ago, I have no reception.

Called the help number and she said she had heard the repeaters were down, but had not yet heard that they had come back up yet. She didn't sound to certain, but thats what I got.

Anyone else in NYC with a problem?

The repeater in Raleigh, NC seems to be offline as of today. I noticed a signal loss late this morning. It could have been longer, though, since I usually get a workable satellite signal where my antenna is located (which is surprising, since it is not in a good location with a clear view to the sky).

This happened a few weeks ago and it came back up later that day. There is a lot of construction going on downtown, which is where the repeater is located, so I am hoping it is just a power outage.

Never mind, its back with surprisingly good reception, especially given the fact that I am near the fringe of it's coverage area.

Madison, WI. I've had Sirius for 4 years. For the first 3 1/2 years the service was great. Suddenly around November 2006, I started randomly losing my signal. My symptoms are just like everone else's - I'll be sitting at a stop light and the signal will go out - Acquiring Signal - then it's gone for 10-20 minutes. When it comes back it's in and out the rest of the day, I have had a broken antenna before and this is not a broken antenna. This is a problem with the service.
Not knowing this was a nationwide issue, I bought a new unit, including a new antenna, and transferred my service to the new receiver. and I still have the exact same issues.

Having this service for as long as I have, I can tell you for sure that something has definitely changed. I went from NEVER having a problem anywhere, anytime to having major problems 90% of the time. Something is definitely wrong with the Sirius service.

Are you in an area with a repeater?

Default Buffalo, NY

Has anyone been having a problem in Buffalo receiving a signal over the past two days (03/13 -03/14)? I thought my antenna might be bad but this morning when I took a trip towards Rochester all of a sudden my radio started working again.

Mike - there are different repeaters with different issues. There were eleven repeaters that were shut down in mid-October. One was in Philadelphia and one was in Delaware.

The CSR's don't know what they are talking about. For more information, you can go to the FCC's website. See post number 60 on this thread for more information on how to get to the FCC's website and see the filings related to the 11 repeaters:

Yup same for me. It must have been a bit windy Tuesday afternoon. The repeater has a habit of going down in the wind. Feel free to call Sirius support and let them know it's down again...

YES!! I thought it might just be because I swapped radios from an Xact Visor to a new Xact replay over the weekend and that was causing problems. Glad to hear that it's probably not my radio and hopefully something that Sirius will take care of soon.

We were in Batavia today and everything was fine, but in Buffalo, nothing but dropouts. Thanks for the reassurance at least

In Central NJ. I started having this signal dropout problem a few weeks ago. Intermittent dropouts with "Acquiring Signal" message.

I was used to getting this in the summer, when the leaves would block out signal on local roads, but this is now happening on open roads.

I called tech support and they told me they were changing the signal sent to my radio to a "stronger" type of signal.

This seems a bit fishy.

Tech support ceases to amaze me, but they do give us some good laughs. I wonder what those morons get paid. Hopefully zero.

Did these dropouts start recently and do they occur at the same time of day? Do they occur at other times of the day?

I am also from New Jersey(south) and have been getting frequent drop outs during the day. they are not long drop outs but just enough to interrupt the quality of listening.

was wondering if anyone has on of those outdoor roof top antennas? if so, how does it work?

I was thinking of getting something like this ---> http://www.tss-radio.com/sirius-home...on-p-3651.html

all in all, it would cost me about $50 to buy and install that antenna and I was wondering if it was worth it. I would think it gets way better reception then the regular radio antennas do.

Yes, I have one. I was able to install it myself on top of my extended lattice on my porch and wind the cord around the decking so I can listen on my porch (my house blocked the signal). You probably want it for inside and so will have to go through a vent under an eave or something. It works great for me. No signal problems at all. You may need a cord extender because 30 feet really isn't that far when you go up and around things to get it where you want.

Default Why does my signal meter show full, and at the same time state " acquiring signal" ?!

Hi, same story as everyone here, had no problems for last 2 years and then boom, two weeks ago i start getting drop outs all the time, both with a fixed antennae and in the car.

The weird thing is, and if this already been mentioned then I apologize, but the signal strength meter on the unit always shows full strength, even when I get the acquiring signal message, and the unit manages to "load" the station names and correct time etc so it must be getting a signal.

I called Sirius Tech last week and they said they were aware of the problem, were working on this and that it was absolutely NOT my unit. They said the
issue should be resolved by Monday April 2nd latest.

Obviously this is not the case beacuse I am still experiencing the same, frustrating issues.

Come on Sirius, dont make me go back....................

Actually the FCC filings on this make *very* interesting reading.

See the thread up in Dogstar Cafe for the file numbers you need to look up. Click on each one, then read all the letters.

It's interesting that one consumer was savvy enough to contact the FCC via his Senator and Congressman, and received a *very* prompt reply!! It's equally interesting that the FCC people claimed, in their responses to the Senator and Congressman, that other parties have filed objections to Sirius' application... and... there are NO such letters on file, that I can see.

It also looks like Sirius reps met with the FCC on February 7 in an attempt to speed this matter up, so clearly the executive level is aware of the problem and working on it.

I think it's time to start writing the FCC, with copies to James Meyer at Sirius and your state representatives.
