Checking in with tons of dropouts from Philly. Friends in South Jersey, California, and other parts of the country have reported tons of dropouts as well.

Yes this is a widespread problem now and believe me I know, all my customers who purchased ST2's are complaining. Cmon someone at Sirius tell us the story.

I live in cleveland suburbs and have had drop outs since mid week. Both in my car and at home. I have a meager Stratus receiver. At some points it will say "acquiring signal". Drops outs are frequent over a period of 5min. Then won't happen for a longer period after that. All in all, the drop outs are random when they occur.

I am only hearing the audio dropouts on Howard 100 & 101. on my Starmate ST2. I was listening to Ch 7 and 23 and they were both solid for over an hour.

Thanks microbob. That'd be great news except that my ST2 stays on H100 24/7. Grrr!

I sent a complaint email to Sirius Customer Service about the signal problems. They have not responded as of yet.

They in fact may be more frequent on 100 and 101. I notice it a lot more on those channels. But have had bbc radio one and hip hop nation cut out a few times as well.

Default Losing Audio in VA and PA

The drop outs were rampant on my commute home last night on my SL100 listening to ch43 -- that's the first it started happening to me. Most often it'll drop out for a second or two without an "Acquiring Signal" message. This morning I noticed it happening again in my home set up (ch135) and saw the "Acquiring Signal" message. I'm in VA, 45 miles south of D.C.

My sister who commutes from South Jersey to Philly was ready to throw her SL100 into the Delaware River. It started with her (on ch100) in the middle of last week and got to the point where she gave up on listening to live audio. She swapped out her antenna for a new one and didn't notice a change.

Unhappy Losing Audio in Windsor Ontario

I just got a new SL100 a month ago because the other one die. (RIP)
It's got the new update and I'm listening to 101 now (Artie Meltdown) and I'm notice a lot of drops in the audio.
I wasn't getting this problem before I installed the latest update. To bad that we can't install the old firmware. At least the old one will record the show without drops in audio.
Sirius should give us the option to uninstall the new firmware if we find problems with it.

Just a quick update. I'm getting dropouts on Ch 5,&6 this morning. They seem to happen very quickly and then it will not happen again for about 10 minutes.

Question Drop outs in FL... Not only sat radio.

It's not just Sirius...

My letter to the FCC.
Has anyone figured out what the RF signal drop out on local & sat radio is caused by. And what to do about it??
It’s my experience that it’s not only with Satellite radio but with AM & FM as well. I am familiar with troubleshooting so I know it is interference within the “air” not the gear.

It almost seems like a RF ‘pulse’ interfering every few minutes. Some days (like today 4/26/08) it’s bad every couple minutes. Other days not so bad. And it happens mostly at night after dark and before dawn. Unlike today. City or country no matter.

The audio drop out sounds like a sharp drop off to silence followed immediately by a ‘fade back up’ to proper level. With a loss of about two seconds of audio. Listening to talk radio, it’s quite annoying.
I’ve been hearing this for 8 to 10 years. It seems to be getting worse these days in April 08 but it’s not a new problem. Pulsing cell phone towers perhaps?

I live in Orlando, FL. I remember first hearing drop outs during morning FM or AM radio in 2000, maybe earlier. I have continued to hear them since. I drive often for work so I’m all over Florida frequently. This happens all over Florida to this day. Tampa, Naples, Miami, Daytona, Jacksonville…. AM, FM and Satellite radio. I have heard these drop outs around other parts of the US as well.
I have not heard this interference in other countries and as far as I can tell, this does not happen with TV only radio.

Does the FCC have any clue what this problem is and how to fix it???
I assure you it is not my equipment.

Thank you for your time.
Dan
Orlando, FL

Well I got a response from Sirius, but it was just the standard troubleshooting BS..check antenna, power cycle, blah, blah, blah.

Has anyone gotten an official statement as to the cause yet?

I live in Ontario Canada and have been getting the annoying dropouts too - also a friend of mine who lives in Brunswick, GA has had the same dropout problem - we are both on the same account and are subbed to Sirius USA.

Anyone heard anything from Sirius on the issue?? this is annoying the ***k out of me...Nothing worse bobbing to your tunes then all of a sudden dead air for like 2 seconds which seems to happen a few times over the course of a minute or two.

Question Sirius: "We are currently making improvements to our broadcast system..."

Called Sirius about another issue and after pressing 1 for English, heard this message:

"We are currently making improvements to our broadcast system. If you are experiencing issues with your radio please press 1 now to speak with a Sirius professional."

I don't recall getting that message in previous calls. Since I was calling about something else, didn't press one ... and, I didn't want to speak with Sirius professional.

I'm a newbie with satrad and Sirius of about 3 weeks in the Toronto area. (Starmate 3 mobile) In the last couple of days I've heard minor drop outs of about 2 seconds every minute or so without showing the "acquiring" notification and major drop outs of about 5 seconds or so WITH the "acquiring" notice about every 5 minutes, mostly on talk channels. Are they perhaps robbing a little bandwidth for the music channels and cutting it a little fine? No drop outs at all prior to last Wednesday.
I've read in the dedicated drop-out forum that there were major disruptions in the LA area last Oct and Nov related to getting repeating stations up and running. Maybe they're trying to get the Toronto repeater up and it's confusing the receiver?
Other than this, I haven't looked back to FM once. I have my fingers crossed.

This is a cross-post from the Dogstar Cafe drop out thread.
