That's the kind of action we need to get this resolved. I'm not sure how to find Mr. Meyer's address, but I'd love to e-mail him myself. I'm sure threre are others who would also like to let him know about this problem.

I don't know if you're comfortable with posting his e-mail address here, but for those of us interested in sending a respectful e-mail to Mr. Meyer so that he is fully aware of the problem, that would be great. If not, I totally understand.

Thanks for such an insightful post and I look forward to hearing more on any response you might get.

Here's an update: I received an email from Mr. Meyer this morning. He thanked us for making him aware of the problem, and said he'd get back to me within 24 hours.

Default Add Cleveland Ohio to the list

I also have seen a lot of downtime in Cleveland, Ohio most of the time I get accquiring signal. I have changed antennas (Yes mine is outside on the roof) And I bought a newer Sporter4 withthe SIR chip.. It drives me nuts to pay 12 bucks for a service that I can't listen to... when I want.. If you had a cell phone that only worked like my sirius, you'd get another provider.

Default repeaters in Harrisburg

I would love to have Mr Myers address also. In Harrisburg the repeaters are shut down from the FCC and we have no reception at work to listen to Sirius. I love my radio and miss listening to Howard all day at work since this has happened it has been horrible trying to listen to CD's or the radio. We even had the news do a article on the issue but not sure when or if the repeater is ever going to be turned back on. When calling Sirius it just gets frustrating because they keep telling us it is our radios or antennas. I would just like to know what is going on and if we will ever be able to listen again at work.

I live in Southern Wisconsin near Madison. I have owned a PNP3 for almost 2 years and never had a reception problem, aside from overhead cover interference.

About the middle of November, I began to experience cut-outs in my reception. There's no consistency to when it happens. The radio shows "Acquiring Signal" but the signal strength shows 3 bars...although it seems to go up and down.

I don't know if we have terrestrial repeaters in my area or not. I checked my "aim antenna" setting, and it showed full strength for satellite signal, but nothing for terrestrial repeaters, so either we have them and they're not working, or we just don't have them and I'm having satellite reception problems.

I haven't seen anyone from the upper midwest post on this issue, so I wanted to chime in and let you know that I've been having problems for a few weeks as well.

Nice email but you might want to mail a hard copy via certified postal mail. Most heads of companies or have someone who weeds through their email and delete most of the junkmail and fluff so your email may never be seen. I suggest printing out this thread, attach your letter and mail it certified mail to Sirius Satellite Radio, 1221 Avenue of the Americas, 36th Floor, New York, NY 10020-1001. Everyone with a signal problem should mail a letter certified mail and then maybe Sirius will finally hear us.

According to Dogstar (http://www.dogstarradio.com/sirius_map.php) there is one repeater in Madison, but it is unconfirmed if it is on or not. I grew up and lived in Wisconsin and have only been in Harrisburg, PA since only 2004. I'm not sure of the range of this repeater, but if it is working it may be up to 10 miles. If you are close by it and you still get no signal, then it isn't working. I've noticed sometimes the satellite reception where I live fluxuates from my usual antenna position in my home using the boombox.

At least for LA, Mr. Meyer has acknowledged the issue and promised a speedy repair. Here's the email he sent me at about 4pm PST:

"
Our investigation uncovered issues with some of our ground repeaters in
the LA metro area which was causing interference to happen. We are
correcting tonight and this should be solved by tomorrow night.Thank you
very much for your note.I am sorry for the problem.
Jim
"

I'm impressed with the fast response. As far as sharing the email, I hate to be sticky about it, but one can find it with publicly available resources....the industrious should have no problem.

Here's my letter...

Mr. James Meyer
President, Operations and Sales
Sirius Satellite Radio
1221 Avenue of the Americas
36th Floor
New York, NY 10020-1001

Dear Mr. Meyer:
I’m sure that by now you are aware, there is a major issue that is effecting Sirius subscribers in Los Angeles. Long story short, reception at my home (40 miles east of Downtown L.A) sounds great, but when I get anywhere near Downtown L.A., the signal interruptions are so bad that I cannot listen to the Sirius radio. Before calling your customer service department, I took another Sirius system that was removed from a vehicle I no longer own and it and the results were the same. I even tried a separate antenna on both radios and there was no change. The signal drops out about once every one or two seconds, thereby rendering the service useless.

Once I performed this test, I went online to Siriusbackstage.com to see if anyone else in the area was having the same trouble. It did not surprise me at all that there were many replies from local Sirius subscribers who were suffering from the same problem.

I made several phone calls to Sirius and as I suspected, the representatives could offer no help other than to have me start switching out equipment. When I told them I had already done that, to which they essentially had no response. I made a total of five calls, if you count the two calls when I was hung up on after waiting patiently on hold for a while.

You can probably imagine my frustration. The last thing I wanted to do was to cancel my Sirius subscription. After realizing however that the people I was talking to were not going to help me and that they weren’t putting me in touch with someone that could, I reluctantly removed the Sirius tuner from my vehicle, put the XM tuner back in and made the necessary calls to cancel Sirius and activate the XM radio.

Even after all this, I would still like to see some resolution that involves Sirius resolving this issue, whatever it may be and perhaps I will re-subscribe to the service. The only stipulation I would put on this however is that Sirius would have to re-activate the radio at no cost to me and allow me a reasonable period of time to listen at no charge until I’m satisfied and confident that these issues have been resolved.

If you would like to contact me with regard to this issue, I would love to hear from yourself or an engineer that might be able to help. I am available between 4 am and 8 pm, Monday through Friday. Please feel free to call me at (xxx) xxx-xxxx if there’s anything I can do to assist with this matter.

Sincerely,

Skylooker

P.S. Since the customer service was so awful on the phone, a little follow-up would really go a long way.

P.P.S. No, I didn't really sign it "Skylooker". I am going to send a copy via postal mail as well.

Well, that bounced. Would someone please post the real address?

I tried jmeyer (at) sirius dot com and haven't received a bounce message. Let's see if that works. I also tried mkarmazin and that didn't bounce either.

Thanks anyway jojo.

(Follow up on Wisconsin issue)

I called Sirius tonight, and spoke to a customer service rep who heard my issues and sent me over to radio sales ( ! )

I called back and got a number for tech support, but it was someone in warranty repairs. Everyone seems to think my radio is bad. Maybe it is? It just seems so coincidental that my issues started happening about the same time as their repeater issues began. I live about 30 miles from Madison, so I'm probably out of range from their repeater if it does actually exist.

I called the place where I had mine installed, and they haven't heard of others having any problems in my area. So, I guess I'll have to try another radio.

On a side note, the customer service rep I spoke to realized that my issue was outside her support boundaries and suggested I call tech support. I asked if she could just transfer me. Then she says that they're no longer allowed to do that. I asked her when that began....can you guess?.....about 1-2 weeks ago, Sirius Customer Service is not able to transfer calls directly to tech support. I told her as a shareholder, it worries me to see anything happen that might be anti-customer-service. She said it's probably a temporary thing, since it only came about after their call volume picked up.

Keep calling!

Same thing the last few weeks here in Portland, Oregon. Use one of my radios at work on the 3rd floor looking directly at a repeater about 10 miles away. Never had big dropouts until the last few weeks. Typically in the middle of the day we get ZERO terrestrial signal for a few minutes up to a few hours.
