I got this response from Mr. Meyer this morning.

Thanks very much for your note. We investigated the issue last night and determined that some of our ground repeaters were malfunctioning creating interference. We expect to fix this today and hopefully this will be resolved by Friday. I am sorry for the trouble and the issue with our customer service. We value your business very much.

Jim

Not quite what I was looking for. I sent this in response.

Well I appreciate your e-mail, but frankly the service I got from Sirius was horrible. An act of good faith on the part of Sirius would go a long way. Perhaps once the issue is completely resolved, someone could call me and help restore my confidence. I don’t think it would bankrupt Sirius to re-activate my radio at no cost to me and give me a month or two to evaluate the service before I commit to spending money on the service again.

An e-mail telling me that you care about my business is great, a phone call and said act of good faith on the part of your company might just get me back as a subscriber.

More updates to follow. The address jmeyer (at) sirius dot com did the trick although the reply came from JMeyer (at) siriusradio dot com.

3 Cheers for Soulbarn!!!!

Looks like the problem is fixed.
For the 1st time in a month, I was able to drive the from the westside to downtown with zero problems (except one little stretch near the 10 & 110 N interchange....which has always been a problem)

Mr. Meyers needs to come up with a better line of communication so these problems don't linger more than a few days.

I'm impressed with the fast response. As far as sharing the email, I hate to be sticky about it, but one can find it with publicly available resources....the industrious should have no problem.

I'll check it on the way home. We may still talk about it on the radio show tomorrow. I'll post more about that when I fond out. Sirius deserves some negative publicity for how poorly this was handled.

Well, I think they should be ashamed for the way this was handled. It should not have taken three weeks and e-mail to upper management before getting some satisfaction. I've had repeater issues with XM and they have always seemed ahppy to take any information I can give that might help their engineers troubleshoot and correct the problem. Sirius rather decided to hide behimd their maze of telephone prompts. That's just terrible and I personally want Sirius to assure me that in the future this will not happen. Until then I -will not be able to recommend Sirius service to anyone.

Concur with the other posts this morning. Commute on 110 Freeway from PCH to downtown, including drive around the high-rises downtown, was fine with no dropouts whatsoever.

Also concur that while I very much appreciate Mr. Meyer's prompt response, it should not have been necessary to take this to his level before someone would respond.

Also bravo to everyone here that noticed a problem, got a consensus about how to deal with it, found a way to contact someone in authority, and got a response...good job!!! Special kudos to Soulbarn for finding Mr. Meyer's email address and sending an articulate yet non-threatening email about the problem.

Yes, problem solved here in Los Angeles. Drives on the 134, 2, 110 and 10 (west) seem to be ok for the last 2 days. Keep our fingers crossed.

Thanks to those who prompted Sirius management, and... thanks to Sirius for solving the problem. I would like to think that it was complaints from folks like us who helped solve the problem, but I think that's being a bit grandiose.

Hopefully the other markets with similar problems are solved soon?

Default Portland, OR reception

Hi,

I've been a Sirius subscriber for a little over a year now and am generally very satisfied. I have a Sportster Replay in my 2001 Silverado with antenna on roof ran through top brake light, in molding along roof, down through dashboard trim to middle of dashboard.

Signal strength had never been a problem until about 2 weeks ago when, during very heavy fog, I got the "Acquiring Signal" all the way to work. I chalked it up to extreme weather conditions and once the fog cleared all was well that day. Since then, the problem has reappeared and gotten worse to the point where I cannot get any reception in anything but clear weather. The exception is when I drive near the ground repeater in Portland, OR which seems to be working just fine. Before I head off to Best Buy to purchase a new antenna, which is the only thing I figure it could be, just wanted to bounce it off this forum to see if you had any other suggestions. Thanks.

// this doesn't hurt me too much when driving but I cannot get a signal at home without putting the windowsill antenna outside, which is something I don't want to do (i live in an apt building). I can barely get 4 bars of satellite signal inside but I guess that is not enough to get real signal.

Siriusly Flawed, I live in Portland too. Check my earlier post from yesterday. Having no problems with my radios with antennas pointed straight up into the air, or in my car. But my boombox at work has had difficulty getting terrestrial signal around noon through 3:00 or so. Not every day, and some days worse than others. Seems like the last few weeks, after the 11 repeaters needed re-configuring. If your not getting signal in your car, your antenna may need replacing.

Thanks geosync. Am going to try replacing antenna and see if that cures the problem. Didn't realize that we had 11 repeaters. The only places I ever get a terrestrial signal are where 5 and 26 connect through the tunnels going out toward Beaverton and 405 bridge.

Yeah, I was on the EB 10 at the 110 today and there's a gaping hole there still. There's another at the 60 & the 605. It's better but still not fixed. I'm sorry but I'm not going to just "settle" for an inferior product.

I recommend that people spend their holiday dollars on XM, not Sirius.
