I'm impressed with the fast response. As far as sharing the email, I hate to be sticky about it, but one can find it with publicly available resources....the industrious should have no problem.

Dan

It looks like they actually did something. Was driving through downtown last night, from South Central to Downtown via side streets and then along the 405 to the 10 to the 605 and no drops. WOW This is a first in months. It will be interesting to see if the 134 freeway was resolved.

Oh and the terresterial signal (drove the whole way with the receiver on antenna aiming) was pegged to the max.

Sirius rather decided to hide behimd their maze of telephone prompts. That's just terrible and I personally want Sirius to assure me that in the future this will not happen. Until then I -will not be able to recommend Sirius service to anyone.

The major problem seems to be corrected, but there are still a lot more dropouts (some overpasses, some unexplained) than I get with XM. I'm physically removing the Sirius receiver when I get home later this morning.

Default Glad your signal is back

I also just sent a letter to Mr. Meyer right now. I know Delaware is small pittance compared to LA but I am hoping he will help resolve our signal issues that we have had since early October. I will keep you posted.

Here is my letter:

Dear Mr. Meyer,
I have been a Sirius customer for the past 2 years in Wilmington, DE. I have also given Sirius to my husband and 3 sons. Since early October, customers in Wilmington have not had a signal. I have called and emailed weekly to customer service and tech support but have not received any definitive answers why this has happened. I have been very disappointed talking with your customer service because most of the people are unaware of the problem and I just receive very generic emails or answers to my questions.

In our office alone, there are 5 Sirius subscribers whose radios displayed “acquiring signal” simultaneously two months ago. We each have different radios so it isn’t our equipment. One employee had her radio only 2 weeks before the service ended.

We have heard there is a repeater problem and customer service has kindly given us credit for our lost service. However, the money isn’t the issue and I just renewed for another year. We just want our service back.

I wanted you to be aware of the problems here in Delaware. After reading the forum boards in Sirius Backstage (www.siriusbackstage/forum.com), we aren’t the only area that is having signal issues.

I would appreciate any response. I know how busy you are and I am just one customer out of the millions of subscribers. But if you could find out when we will have service again, you will make the friends and families here in Delaware happy subscribers.

Regards, ...

Your dollars are just as valuable as ours. We should all be getting what is promised when they give you that sales pitch. "Crystal clear, digital, uninterrupted sound from coast to coast." That's waaaay far from the case.

Default President of Sirius called me

Jim Meyer just left me a voicemail. I transcribed his message and here is what he had to say:

Dear Ms. Bolmeyer,
My name is Jim Meyer and I am the President of Sirius Satellite Radio and I received an email from you today expressing your frustration over our service in the Wilmington area. First, let me apologize A LOT (big emphasis on the A LOT) for your inconvenience.

Let me tell you what is going on. We have a repeater which is a ground transmitter that filters spots in our network and because of the topography around Delaware and around Wilmington, we need one there. We have several hundred around the country. In a recent audit, we determined it was operating out of spec and the government has told us that they need to evaluate what that means and in the interim, we have been forced to turn it off.

We expect to have this resolved very very shortly and we continue to work with them on the spec. Without boring you with all the technical details, what occurs in the interference of our repeaters and other wireless communication repeaters in your area, whether through the phone company or guys that are doing stuff wirelessly

We are working as hard as we can with them and I have to tell you that I am really disappointed that we don’t have this wrapped up yet. It has our attention. You should be frustrated and we will do everything we can. In the meantime, if you would just stay with us and we will get this resolved. I do really appreciate your business.

If this answer doesn’t satisfy you, just send me another email and I will call you back. Thank you and bye bye.

I was very impressed that he called and gave me an honest answer. Eventhough I still do not have Sirius, I know now they are working on the problem and hopefully it will get resolved.

I've been having problems in Columbus, OH today. Might the bad weather (wind, rain, etc.) have knocked something out?

That would not be related to what we're talking about here. Please don't hijack.

So, he was wrong for posting in the "Official Signal Dropout Thread"? or has it become the "official forced-repeater shutdown victim" thread? I thought this was a gathering place for anyone who has signal dropout issues?

You might have gathered from the rest of the thread that there have been some ongoing and widespread problems that we've been discussing. His was more of an isolated incident. I suppose I should dumb down the title a little bit for those who just post without first seeing what the conversation is about. You're kinda new here. You'll get the hang of how these message boards work.

In any case, I don't subscribe to Sirius anymore, so I'm outta here.

Having the same problem. No problems until Wed. Now I can't get a signal. Sirius said it was my antenna, I hung up on her. I'm so pissed. And Kyrptonite has a valid point, I think the weather was messing up my signal here IN. The nearest repeater is in Indy, 4 hours away, the repeaters being down have nothing to do with my problem. I doubt it's my antenna, but I guess it could be, maybe. I hope the bad weather just messed things up and it will be back to normal soon. I can't be with out Howard on Monday. Please Sirius, fix this problem.

How does one user with reception problems know if it's isolated? I thought the point of this thread was to get as many people to post.

???

You might be a heavy siriusbackstage.com forum user, but for all we know, this is the first board on which you've been an active user. Maybe you'll get the hang of forum etiquette once you head over to XM's user site? Happy trails.

Thumbs down

I'm having the same problem in the Chicago area---I went from consistently having 2 signal bars at work and 3 at home, to the constant dropout 'Acquiring Signal' message. It's been like this for at least the past 4 weeks. I wrote Sirius and after answering a bunch of followup questions from them, I haven't received any further info other than a customer service survey.
