Default AUX In question

This is my go to site for questions

I just ordered the Starmate 4, and I was looking into a new car radio with a aux in plug.

Is this my best option or should I wait for solutions to the fm transmitter, or get fm direct modulator.

If I use the Aux in plug- can the wire I use to connect radio to aux in also be used for my ipod? what type of wire do I have to buy?

some questions before I actually buy something- tell me what you have done or what radio did you buy for your car.

Thanks!

Just to add to above

The AUX will always give better sound quality then a FM solution.

Since you plan on using it for both the Ipod and Starmate 4.
The answer is go front mounted.

This will make switching from one to the other easyer.

Either would work. If you are using it with an ipod, obviously the plug would be accessible for you to move it from your ipod to any other device with a 1/8th inch plug. But I do agree, front seems easier. Once the radio is installed, you can just plug the wire in easily. But if money is an issue, just buy the cheapest. as stated before, both are ok.

I'm currently using a Pioneer.

With the IP Bus I've connected a Ipod controller and a Sirius tuner.

The head unit controls both the Ipod and Sirius.

There are no wires showing anyplace and the Ipod goes in the glovebox.

Just plug the wire in the glovebox into the dock connector on your Ipod.

I am also running a Pioneer with an IP Bus connector in addition to the rear-mounted aux-in. This is the one I have:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-aC10Wkj...rch=pioneer+mp

$140 at Crutchfield. It has a 3.5mm aux input on the back. For another $50 you can get an Ipod interface for the IP bus connector which is also on the back of the stereo. Not exactly cheap but not super expensive either. I'm very happy with this stereo in my Tacoma.

A lot of people here have gone with JVC headunits for the good quality and price. I eventually added the JVC1 SIRIUS Connect tuner box to have the convenience of "built-in" SIRIUS.

I picked up my 4800 for $118 brand new. Do a search and you'll find that Crutchfield has the highest price on it.

Now I am also looking at the PIE X3 for my Honda civic and a wire harness and this will give me 3 aux in options, there so many options other than the fm transmitter

I am down to 2 choices
new pioneer radio with aux in

I may have the same Dual with the iPlug input. It's okay, especially for the price, but the bright blue panel lights have become annoying.
