Default Stock 2004 Cavalier???

Hey all,

First time poster (so bear with me! ). I'm looking at getting the Sirius Starmate 4 for Xmas (finally gonna attempt the plunge into Satellite Radio)...I own a 2004 Chevy Cavalier with the stock stereo. My question is simply to know if it's possible to use it in my car with the stock stereo? I heard GM stock stereos can be a pain in the butt to work with.

I plan on getting my local customization shop to install it for me (since they're better at doing all the wiring and what-not)...but I don’t want to ask for it for Xmas if it won't work in my vehicle.

Can someone help or offer up some advice?

Thanks!
Mike.

Hey Mike, you have two options:

1) The SIR-GM1. This adds satellite capability inside your stock radio and is cheaper than the other below.

2) You have the AUX in route, if you want to directly connect a Starmate 4 to your stock radio.

Personally, the ST4+AUX is a better solution because you get more features than the SIR-GM1.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Is it essential I buy one of those to install it? Or can it be done without it? Maybe I don't understand exactly what those things do! LOL

Sorry for being difficult!

ST4 standalone... if you use the wireless FM transmitter you'll be really frustrated due to the static... if you want a cheaper way, just buy the ST4+FM Direct Wire. Just remember that the SIR-GM1, AUX input or the Direct Wire do require removal of radio so you can plug it in to the back (I recommend professional installation) but while the wireless FM transmitter may be easy to set up, but like I said you'll be frustrated with the static due to FCC crackdown.

Any Sirius radio will work in your car. After you get it, just go to your local CC, BB, Tweeter, auto stereo store, etc. So many places do installs now. Expect to pay a bit over $100. it's worth it though, and you will never regret it. Money well spent.
