Default undock issue / constant beep tone sound

HI there.

I just installed a Sirius radio, the Sportster 3, in my 07 Rav4. The install actually looks real clean with it mounted on the vents. I was able to route the power cable, and aux cable so they fed thorugh the dash all the way down and through the center console. There is an auxillary and power port in the center console storage compartment, between the driver and passenger seats. So it makes for a nice clean install with all wires hidden.

I love all the channels but i have had a couple issues i was hoping some of you experts could shed some light on.

1) Occasionally if my car has been sitting turned off for some time and then i go to start the vehicle and turn on the sirius tuner, it will not connect. I have to turn the tuner off, then undock it, redock and turn it back on. This always remedies the problem. Why does this happen??
It seems like it only happens when i have the vehicle off for a long time.

2) As i mentioned i am using the auxillary cable, standard 6' Radioshack aux cables. I constantly heer a beep tone when the music is not loud. You especially notice it during talk shows because there are obviously periods of silence. I don't notice it at all during music. The tone seems to get louder when i accelerate the vehicle, the pitch kind of parallels the revs of the engine. I'm curious if i am getting some sort of interference, or should i be using better aux cables?? Anyone come across this?

Hi, craig.

It sounds like the SP3 was poorly designed. I suspect the memory buffers completely power down after a while and need a reset after they get power just to detect the difference. It sounds like you found a way to deal with it, but it does sound irritating.

It also sounds like you have a ground loop or ground noise. The first is caused by the fact that the ground in the head unit (HU) might be different from the ground seen by the Sirius tuner. The second is caused by alternators that have a little 'ripple' on the output. Both can be fairly easily and cheaply fixed with a 'ground loop isolator' available at most electronic outlets. You might also check TheSiriusStore to see what solutions they have.
