Question How long does Channel Update take?

Just got the Stratus and home kit and have hooked up at work. However, I am in the Channel Update Screen stuck at 0% for at least 15 minutes now. How long does it take to start updating channels.

Would it stay on this screen if I have no signal? When I first turned on, it said "acquiring signal" then changed to the channel update screen. I really don't have a southwest view of the sky, more westerly instead, but can get XM from that direction (repeaters only though).

Can you shut down and try again why it is at this screen?

It's usually pretty quick---not even a minute. I don't really have SW exposure either because I'd have to run the antenna cable across the floor, but I do ok even setting the antenna to the north (home) or even due south (work). There seem to have been some signal issues lately (see other post) so that may be the issue. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to try it over again though--but maybe try moving the antenna around 1st--it should start updating once a signal is picked up

Thanks for the quick reply. I moved it around some, was able to get 4 bars via Sat, not great, but a signal and the channel update. Now back to Acquiring Signal...guess I need to play around some to find a good signal before I actually sign up.

Is the antenna located indoors? Do the windows have any kind of metallic tint?

The receiver does have to be turned on and have a good signal (you can tell because there will always be an audio broadcast on Ch. 184) to be activated. It sounds like you have a good plan.

When you call to sign up, the rep will ask you if you have your radio set up and turned on, antenna aimed property, and are tuned to and receiving channel 184. They can't activate your radio otherwise. It has to be getting signal.

The best place for the antenna is on the roof with a clear view of the sky. Without a clear line to the satellite, you will have signal problems.

Thanks for all the tips. I was able to activate yesterday after playing around. Still only able to get 4 out of 10 bars from sat signal, 0 from Terr. Even with just 4, it worked fine until today where it works, doesn't work, works, doesn't work...even though it's on 4 out of 10 the whole time.

I cannot put the antenna on the roof as I am in the first floor of a 2 floor building at work in a government building. Don't think they will take kindly to me climbing up on the roof. It's just frustrating because my XM works fine, but the Sirius is iffy. As I saw on another thread, there appears to be a signal problem happening around the country so maybe that has something to do with.

I will take the radio home on Friday and see how it works at my house which is close to a local repeater in the next town and will also give me a clear southern view.

That's what we're here for, joe.

Okay. I hadn't understood you were in a commercial building. I'm sorry to tell you this, but you are going to have problems. Some are caused by the metallic tint most business use on the windows. Some are caused by the way commercial buildings tend to 'clump'. Some are caused by wireless devices that are close in frequency to satrad.

But all is not lost. Some people have had success by using a car antenna, like this. (You will have to remove the plastic shell on the plug.) The gain is not as high, but you eliminate having to aim the antenna, which is usually where the problems start.
