Post Question....

When you go to a fast food restaraunt, gas station or even a wooded area, is it normal for your sirius satellite radio signal to display on your screen "antenna not detected", "No antenna" or perhaps "No signal"?? I was just curious if whenever you are under some shelter whether it be a fast food restaraunt, gas station or even a heavy or light wooded area, is it normal for my sirius radio to display one of those 3 displays i listed above? Thanks

Steve

Yes. If the antenna can not "see" the satellite because of an overhead obstruction, you will get the "Acquiring Signal" message.

If you go through the drive through the order SHOULD show up on the sirius display. Maybe it's a bug and you need a firmware update.

Yep.. "Aquiring Signal" is normal when the satellite and/or repeater signals are blocked by obstructions.

But, "Antenna Not Detected" or "No Antenna" aren't good messages. They indicate a hardware problem.

So any of the messages like "No Antenna", " Antenna/Antenna Not Detected" or " No Signal" ... is an indication of a hardware problem. Hardware problem like with the antenna inwhich i need to buy a new antenna, or a hardware problem like with my sirius unit itself? Cause i figure, if my display listed any of the 3 i listed above, it would make sense to me that its a problem with my antenna and it needs to be replaced or something. What do ya'll think? Thanks for the quick response also by the way.

Steve

As the earlier reply stated, if you drive underneath an obstruction of some sort and the antenna does not have a direct line of sight to the saetllite, there's a good chance you're going to lose the service until you're out from under the obstruction.

Satellite radio is a little different than AM/FM in that it does not propogate through and underneath objects such as buildings, trees and overpasses and such. If you don't want to lose the signal, don't drive under them. If you do drive under them, don't be surprised if you're not hearing anything out of the radio.

If you're still getting these messages, even with a clear view, it could be your equipment. I would be even more suspicious of Sirius' equipment though. They've been having a lot of issues that have been causing people to get messages such as this. Their "listener care" people always blame the subscriber equipment.

If your antenna is plugged in and you see something like "No Antenna" or "Antenna not detected", then you have a hardware problem.

"No Signal" or "Aquiring signal" could be a hardware problem, but as Skylooker says, the signal can be blocked easily.. Chances are 99.9% that your signal is just being blocked. The last thing to consider in this case is hardware.
