Default AC Adapter for a Sportster 4

Hello Everyone --

I recently bought a new Sportster 4 as an upgrade from an older Sanyo Sirius unit. In doing so, my existing power cords - for my car and desk at work - no longer fit the new universal dock that came with the unit.

I'm trying to find a new AC adapter that will fit the universal dock. I know I can get one if I buy the Plug & Play Universal Kit (SUP-H1). But I was also wondering if I can get away with just buying an AC adapter? If so, what exactly would I need to look for?

I'm asking because I went to my local Radio Shack looking to do just that - buy just the AC. The salesperson told me that only Sirius AC adapters would work. Is this really the case, or can I find a single AC adapter elsewhere?

Thanks for your help!

The Sportster 4 needs 5.2 volts and at least 700mA.. A place like Rad Shack should be able to set you up with one.. They have plugs to fit too..

You CAN use the existing car kit lighter plug adapter in the house with an accessory LIKE THIS

ToyFreek, you will need the home dock at your office as well. You need a place to plug in the power, antenna, and speakers.

It is worth the $49.

The problem with the universal home docks is that they're SO expensive.. I got one for my Stratus and it cost almost as much as the complete radio kit.

I use my radio in two rooms. I have antennas in each room and carry the cradle and power plug back and forth as needed. (I plug the radio into my home stereo when I'm in the living room and into my computer sound card when I'm in the computer room). It's a bit more work, but cheaper than spending close to $100 for two home kits.

Here is the piece you need.

It's the 5V AC Adapter for the S50. All of the new 5V units can use this adapter.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. It looks like the adapter that paintedantenna pointed out should work for me.

I have the antenna at home and another at work. The car cradle that came with my Sportster 4 seems to work find on my desks... so I'm just looking for an extra AC Adapter rather than spend $50 if I don't have to.

I got some extra money for Christmas, so I think I'll place an order soon!
