i have had mine for a almost a month now and so far have not had any problems. I got one for my mom and she loves it. Has not had any complaints about it either. I even dropped mine once on accident and no scratches or cracks. It still works fine. My only complaint is the controller could have a little bit bigger buttons. The size makes them kinda hard to press.

I have gone through two, HOWEVER, the first one broke only due to bad placement in the car on my part. The suction cup wasnt secured, and it took a fall to the ground, cracking the screen. I coldnt read anything, but it played fine and everything else was functional. Sirius sent me a replacement about 2 months ago and all is fine.

In total, between the two, I owned a starmate replay since May. Aside from my screen cracking due to my own fault, all is great with the replay.

It survived 100+ degree weather in the sun in the car, and below zero now in the winter, and still works perfect. I recently got a wired fm modulator for it and the sound is great.

As long as you don't let it hit any solid object on the screen like I did, it should hold up perfectly fine. It's a great reciever.

I am on my second one in a year...the thing that seems to happen with these models is when you plug/unplug from home/car on a daily basis...or more...the connecters come loose...my advice would be to put it somewhere and leave it...mine works fine now

I've had my ST2 since April with no trouble at all (stays in the car). But, as others have said, the connections aren't really made to withstand frequent plugging/unplugging.

ah yeah i'm gonna be moving it around on occasion. I don't drive longish distances more than one a month or so but when i do it's coming with me. i thought that was the point of the plug and play. i guess i'll be gentle and spend the $20 for the extended warranty. Thanks!

don't sweat it. the new starmate uses the universal dock. the older starmates (ST1, ST2) were "dockless". You had to connect/disconnect each wire (antenna, power, audio, FM) when you moved it around. This can cause excess wear on some of those connectors - especially the antenna connection. the dock makes plug and play a lot easier and less harsh on the actual receiver. And just keep in mind that people rarely post on a message board when things are fine. This is a place to come look for help which is why you generally only see people writing about when things aren't working.

your point is EXACTLY the issue i'm trying to raise here - Sirius needs to STOP calling these models plug n play if after you plug n play THEY BREAK!

every morning i put my radio in my car and took it out every night. and that was way too much for the unit to handle!

Hey dkain, like most of us here, I'm on my second Starmate Replay in exactly a year! The second one is about to loose grip of the power jack. Now a word of advice, run your power, audio and antenna cables between the radio and the back mount (the one with the four screws) and clip it. That way, the radio will be less susceptible to failure.

For home use, get a lighter-type female adapter and rig it to a household 12VDC/1Amp adaptor.

Good luck.

I've had my Starmate Replay for over a year and have had no problems. I never take mine out of the car though. I ended up hard wiring the unit and had it permanently mounted. I mounted it so well in fact that even when my car got broken into, the idiot thieves couldn't remove it from my car. It still worked after the incident without any problems.
