Default Repeater solution?

Ok, I am one of the people living in an area where a repeater that I relied on has been down for quite some time. I read all about how the repeaters were in violation of the FCC approval, so Sirius shut them down. Then Sirius asked to bring them up temporarily and that was appealed so on and so on. So the question I ask is, why is Sirius fighting this? Wouldn't Sirius be perfectly ok to scrap the old repeater, pull the "special permission request" and put a new compliant repeater in these areas?? Just a thought I had.

That's a very easy question!

Unfortunately, the answer is very difficult.

From what I understand (and I could be VERY off base, here) the FCC decided Sirius wasn't compliant after they (the FCC) changed their method of calculation of transmitted power. Sirius, wanting to be in compliance, asked for the exact, definitive method so they could measure the power being transmitted, then calculate the difference and make adjustments.

There followed a long wrangling over industry standards and beaureaucratic requirements. You got stuck in the middle.

Sirius is holding out for reasonable, meetable standards. The FCC is flexing it's political muscle. Sirius is a business that depends on subscriptions. The FCC is a bunch of political hacks who have to look like they justify their bloated appropriations. You're the midget between the fat guy and the dessert bar.

Sorry.
