Angry Sportster Won't Activate

Have had Sirius for over a year now, bought it because of AA but then AA went to XM. Bought another radio for my husband's Christmas present. Ho ho ho on me, I guess, because it won't work. Right now, I'm so mad I am ready to cancel my subscription. (Of course, since Sirius doesn't have AA I have no reason to stay except the investment in the bad equipment...)

Been on the phone with Customer Lack of Service for two hours now. They treat me like I'm an idiot, but it's their radio that won't activate. They talk down to me (like I don't know how to match the frequencies!!) and I am SICK of it. I can't send it back, they can't Fed Ex Overnight me a new one, they won't give me a free subscription. They offered me two months - that's $14, folks - and don't give a crap that I don't have a present for my husband now.

I can't go through warranty because that doesn't kick in until 30 days. OH and to top it off, I'm a stockholder. This is how they treat us. I wonder if XM would Fed Ex overnight....

Wow. Never had any of those problems. Your going to miss Mike Malloy. Sirius just started airing his shows on Monday. The best way to activate a radio is over the web, but when adding a sub or activating a new radio, I call. I would call at night, when it is slower and maybe take the radio back where you bought it. It sounds defective. Good luck!!

If you bought it from them, I would ship it back after Christmas, but go out now and buy a new one. Radioshack should still have some.

What does "matching the frequencies" have to do with activating a radio?

Unhappy On the way to resolution...

Mexicanartie: I won't miss Malloy, I am keeping Sirius, for now. MY radio, anyway.

Bendee: Sent the POS back today. The heck with waiting until after Christmas. Person in ecommerce dept I spoke to after four hours of wrangling with Customer Lack of Service said she'd upgrade it, free, to Sportster 4. THEN she gave me $50 credit to go to Radio Shack to buy a Stratus so there was something under the tree. And the postage credit to return the POS they sent me. Works for me.

JWT: Nothing. It has Nothing to do with activation. These robots they have working in customer lackofservice are just repeating what's on a paper in front of them. They talk down to you. It's demeaning.

I was on with Sirius for FOUR HOURS yesterday - I wouldn't have been if they would have known in CLS that Warranties don't kick in for 30 days.

At the end of it all, I ended up with a better deal, but a LARGE headache, really couldn't do a thing for the rest of the day, I was mentally exhausted. I guess I should knock on wood - the deal is Hopefully better, that is, as long as it works out the way she said it will. No notes are on my account. But then again, neither is the Replay that wouldn't activate.....and I can dispute the charge on my credit card if they screw with me.

Cool

I think the lesson learned is to not buy directly from Sirius. Buy from Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc. I have been reading the boards today and seeing how many people have had problems with Sirius-bought equipment, and that's really sad.

BTW When I went to buy the Stratus from Radio Shack today, they had a $20 rebate AND then the home kit was free, because it was $49, with a $50 rebate.

Exactly. You got it. Now you know the proper purchasing procedure. Return the original it is defective. I use radio shack as well.

Thumbs down Beware...

If a Sirius agent from Nova Scotia gives you credit on your account, make sure it's there before you buy another radio. Oh and if they give you their extension for you to ask for them when you have to call to have it activated, don't buy it. The agents who answer the phone have no way to transfer your calls.

Just another hoax?
