Unhappy Serious static issues

Happy Holidays All,

I have been a subscriber for over a year now. Very happy until I just upgraded my receiver. I had a Visor which I got excellent reception on 89.7. I upgraded to the Xact Replay. Now I can't get any decent station without serious static. I'm trying to avoid any hardwire installations. My reception bar is always full strength. I have a 2005 Honda Civic. I live in Northern California Stockton/Lodi area. Any ideas on stations in this area. Even the ones they suggest on the Sirius website don't seem to work very well. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone used any specific stations in this area that work very well? Could disconnecting my radio antenna help at all? Could I do this without taking apart the car radio?

The transmitter in your Visor was probably illegal. That's why it worked so good

Sirius was selling FM transmitters that exceeded the power that was stated FCC Part15 rules dealing with unlicensed transmitters operating in the FM broadcast band.

The National Association of Broadcasters caught on to the high powered transmitters and complained to the FCC

As a result, since last summer ALL the FM transmitters built in to Sirius receivers have been down in power and susceptible to static and interference.

The only real solution is to wire the FM-OUT on your Sirius receiver directly to your car FM radio antenna plug. It can be done with the FM-Direct adapter (aka modulator relay).

HERE is a good article on it on Sirius Backstage...
