Default Installed the S50 in the BMW M3 (PICS!)

I have to say I'm very pleased with the S50. It took a couple hours to install after getting a Y cable from Radio shack.

- S50 tuner
- Alpine DVD/Navigation/ head unit (can't remember the model right now)
- Multimedia switch

I installed the S50 in the ashtray of my center console. It sits so perfectly in there it doesn't even budge during spirited driving. I was totally against the idea of using the provided mount on the dash of my baby, so this was a much better option. I might do something more custom in the future so it'll look more flush with the console. And maybe a cover to go with it to deter thieves.

I placed the antenna on the far passenger side of the dash....right by the A-pillar and ran the wire down inside the door gasket, under the dash and routed it to come underneath the ashtray. (Pics will be coming in the next day or 2)

Right now I just have the cig adaptor hooked up but ran the cable underneath the center console so it would also come up from the ashtray. I plan on hardwiring it when I have time. (Pics will be up soon)

I routed the line out Y cable from the ashtray underneath the center console, and into my glovebox where I have a mulitmedia switch installed. Makes it real easy to hook up as the connections are right there. I never had to pull the head unit out. (Pics soon)

Well the first time hooking up I realized that the straight Y cable was too bulky to fit in the ashtray....I needed one with a right-angle connector. So I returned it and used that. But another problem came about. The new cables connector was too short on the line out side. So I cut a little of the rubber sheathing so the connector can sit further in the S50. No problems ever since. It sounds great, and I love the voice that tells you what channel that you're on so you can concentrate on driving. It's also real sleek, and my friends even says it looks like it just belongs in the car.

Well today I went ahead and bought a second car kit (100 dollars) for use in my 2001 Grand Am GT. I'm just going to use the FM modulator on that one as I don't have a headunit that allows RCA's. Hope it sounds just as good. Now I'll be able to switch the S50 to the Grand AM during the week for work, and put it in the bimmer for my weekend fun!

Here are some pics. I'll update with more in the near future. This is the install in a 1999 BMW M3. I'll have better closeups soon! Feel free to make suggestions/ask questions....whatever. Thanks!
