Question Newbie Having Trouble w/download

Got a new Sirius sportster yesterday, along with boombox. Powered it up in boombox, and followed directions to activate. It says you have to download all the channels first, then tune to 184? and activate. Well the problem is that we can't get it to download. Last night the download screen finally came on, but stayed at 0%. Today we got to 10%, then nothing. Now all it says on the receiver creen is SID #etc. and we can't even get to the download screen. We've moved the antenna to various positions, inside, outside the window but not much luck (except when we got the 10%). We live in rural Vermont, and it's cloudy. (But we have DirecTV which works fine.) I hesitate to pay the subscription/activation fees because according to the web site, you need to get the channels downloaded first before you activate. Any suggestions?

First: Turn on. (Ch. 184 will be the ONLY channel you can tune, you MUST be receiving it to activate.) Activate. Update. In that order. Activation will happen quickly. Update will take a few minutes.

I suggest you place the antenna outdoors. Place it somewhere you get a clear view of the Western sky, if possible. Point the antenna due West, almost straight up. A window-sill with no metallic tint or screen will be almost as good.

Don't be afraid to unclip the antenna from the back of the boombox and uncoil the antenna wire. It comes with about 20 feet of cable.

Later, once you're activated and updated, you might want to spend the money for an outdoor antenna and dish combiner/splitter kit, or a home signal distribution kit. There are discussions and reviews in the other forums.
