Default Starmate Replay problem...

I have a Starmate Replay that has been working like a champ until this morning. I had moved it to our other car for a long trip and when I put it in my truck and plugged in the cigarette lighter plug, nothing. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

Define 'nothing' please.

Sorry. By "nothing", I mean it won't power on at all. I thought maybe it was the cigarette adapter so I got the one from my old sportster and it powered on at first, but when I tried it again, no power.

This unit isn't even a year old...maybe 6 months. Do they have a warranty?

A couple of things to check:

1. Try putting it back in your other car to see if it works there again. If it does, then the cig lighter jack in the first car could be dead. This also isolates the problem a little more (i.e. if the radio works in the other car with the same cig lighter cord, the problem is in the first car).

2. Check the cig lighter jack in the first car. Does it heat up the cig lighter or do you have a voltmeter to check to see if there is power in that jack? Perhaps the car fuse to that jack has blown.

It isn't the cig. lighter plug because they both are powering other stuff fine (cell phone charger etc.). I also looked at the fuse on the adapter for the Sirius and it looked fine.

Check the fuse with a VOM for continuity, or check the radio end of the cord to see if you get 12v there.

Well...I went ahead and called the warranty dept. at Sirius and they are sending me a new one since it is under a year old. Now I need to decide do I keep that one or give it to my wife and I get a Stilletto 100? (If I can decide it is worth it.....)

I'm glad you're getting this resolved, v. But you should understand that this is just a temporary solution.

There have been a lot of people who have had a problem with the antenna or power jack. Contrary to any descriptions on the package, the Starmate Replay is not a true plug and play. The lifetime of the jacks falls way short of a reasonable lifetime for the receiver as a whole, it appears.

If you can't minimize the number of times you plug/unplug the receiver, I recommend a short SMB plug to SMB jack extender cable, left plugged in the receiver jack, then plug and unplug the antenna from the extender cable. Eventually, this too will wear out, but it should be a heck of a lot cheaper to replace than the receiver. I believe a fellow board member, brianrwebb, makes and sells this sort of thing. For the power, I have no idea what to do.

Simply being gentle when inserting and removing the power and antenna plugs might help, too.

Thanks. That is a good idea. If I give this one to my wife, it will be installed and never taken out. That all depends if I can decide if I want the Stilletto or not. I know this isn't the forum, but anyone have one and do you like it? Just wondering if it is worth the "cake".

Darn tootin'!

We didn't have no fancy MOSFET's back then. A vacuum tube voltmeter did the job!

I still own a vacuum tube voltmeter.. It's a Heathkit.. I built it myself many years ago. It works, but just collects dust.... I can never seem to get rid of junk
