Default Signal Indicator on Sportster 4

Stupid ?s When I hit the signal indicator on my Sportster 4. I usually have full strength on SAT and absolutely zero strength on TER. What does this mean ? Does this mean I do not have any ground repeaters in my area? I cant tell if Iam having weather or equipment issues ? How often does anyone lose their signal ? Iam averaging 1-2 every week and a half. Iam using wired fm modulator if this matters for TER strength. Thanks for the help
PS I get this reading regardless of the home or car kit .

You are correct about the TER signal. It means that you are not in the range of a ground repeater. If you are in range of a repeater you will see something show up on the TER signal indicator. The wired modulator relay won't have any affect on either of your signal strength indicators (SAT or TER).

Since you are relying 100% on satellite signal, it is pretty normal to lose signal now and then. The signal off the satellites is fairly weak and can be blocked by large trees, overpasses, tall buildings, etc... Also, the satellites are constantly in motion, so even if you have the antenna in one spot (like at home) you can still lose signal now and then as the sats move through the sky. Again, this is normal.

Sounds like your setup is working normally.

Just to add.. You'll only see a TERR signal from land based repeaters in or near large cities. (Phoenix, Minneapolis, Miami, Houston etc).. They use these repeaters primarily to 'fill in' shadow areas in cities caused by all the tall buildings and overpasses..

No affected signals here in Southern California.. I get beautiful reception here from the birds up in the sky and some local repeaters.
