Default Streamer Replay...Automatic Display Dimming?

Just received a Streamer Replay for Christmas. Seems like a decent radio, but there's one thing that I can't figure out (and it's also missing from the manual) which is the Automatic display dimming. Manual brightness works as expected. In the Automatic mode, the brightness seems to remain at the highest setting. I figured out that I could adjust the minimum and maximum allowed automatic settings, but the display always seems to remain on the highest allowed automatic setting. Is this a bug?

Also, is it just me, or is hearing the artifacting from the stream compression just that noticeable. It sounds like I'm listening to a 96kbps stream over the internet most of the time and DJ's sound like they're talking from within their shower. IIRC, music channels are 128kbps, but it just sounds lower than that.

The automatic dimming takes a few minutes to react to the lighting conditions in the vehicle. My Streamer Replay takes perhaps 5 minutes before it dims when I leave in the dark in the morning.
