Default High pitch sound through my receiver itself???

Hello everyone... I just replaced my SV1 receiver with a SV3 (Stratus) and now I'm noticing a really annoying, kinda high pitched sound coming from the actual receiver. It is not coming from the speakers - i put my ear up to them and could not hear it, however when I put my ear right beside the sirius receiver, I can definitely tell it's coming from there. I tried the following things:

Car on - noise
Car off - noise
Car head unit volume all the way down - noise
Sirius receiver volume all the way down - noise
Tones turned off on the sirius receiver - noise
Car head unit turned off - noise

the only thing that will make the noise go away is turning off the receiver itself.

I am using FM Direct Adapter, btw.

Everything works just fine, it just makes this very annoying sound.

Does the SV3 Stratus receiver have a fan or anything inside, because I cannot for the life of me figure out what would be emitting noise from the unit itself. Or should I just take this thing back?

I just tried it on my stratus....if I put my ear right up next to the unit, i hear a VERY faint screeching noise, but not very noticable after you're one or two inches away.

Fyi, nope, the SV3 doesn't have a fan but it definitely runs WAY cooler than my old XACT XTR1.

I would have to say, either I'm going deaf (hope not, i'm only 18, no rock concerts yet), you have ultra sensitive ears, or your unit's defective. I have a feeling that the probable answer is the last option.

I've got ears that are sensitive to dog whistles ..

My old Audiovox PNP2 had a faint high pitched squeal when it was on. It came from inside the unit and not the speakers.. It was like that for years.

I just stuck my ear next to my Stratus and I don't hear anything.. It's quiet.

It could be a manufacturing fault. There are frequencies generated within the radio that are used to control the display and other things.. Some of these frequencies are in the high pitched range of hearing..

You aren't supposed to hear them.. But.. If a component came loose or never got fastened down right, it could vibrate at that high freqency(acting like a little speaker) and you wind up hearing it...

The noise probably won't hurt anything, but if it's annoying you might be looking at a warranty return.....
