Cool A Question

I just received a Sirius Stratus unit. I would like to eliminate as many connecting wires as I can. The question I have is this. By purchasing the FM modulator does this eliminate the need for the roof top attenna?

No.

The rooftop antenna is the antenna that receives the signal from the satellite.

The FM modulator (direct adapter) transmits the Sirius radio receiver signal to your existing car FM radio.

There's only 3 wires to connect to your sat receiver... audio, antenna, and power. Real simple.
