Angry Ground Loop Noise w/ Aux In, Help.

Details. I have (or had) a new SV3 Stratus that I got for Christmas. I have an Aiwa stereo receiver in my 96 Sebring. The Aiwa has an Aux In 3.5 mm jack in the front of it which I've used for my mp3 player for quite awhile. I went through the trouble of mounting everything in the SV3 kit up and turned it on only to have the worst humming coming from the speakers I've ever heard

First off, I've been on the phone with Sirius for about a total of 2 hours since yesterday (40 min yesterday, at least an hour and a half today) and I've been disconnected after being on hold for over 45 minutes at one point a total of 3 times. I don't think that's a coincidence. I still have yet to connect to anyone there who is tech.

The sales person at Best Buy said they've never heard of the problem, but that I should expect humming. Then he said that the audio out port on the SV3 is mono anyway so I shouldn't use it. Both statements are false, and I'm wondering why someone doesn't keep these clueless people on a leash.

A sales rep at Radio Shack said the the SV3 is junk and wasn't made for auto installation He said that Sirius expects it's users to live with the humming. He then said that the FM modulator gives a better signal than hard wired anyway. Again, false, and where's the leash.

Why are these people even allowed to sell these things?

After some digging online, it appears I have a ground loop noise. I re-grounded the cig lighter directly to the chassis w/ no effect.

Can I fix this by grounding the radio better or should I buy the 3.5 mm Ground Loop Isolator? I'm so ticked off by Sirius' sales reps and customer service line that I returned the unit to Best Buy temporarily (maybe permanently). I've not been this ticked off in a long time. Thanks for any REAL help.

the ground problem could be with your aiwa and not your Sat unit. You might want to check ground on the Aiwa and maybe provide it a better ground.

I finally messed around with it today. I re-grounded the radio literally to the same place as the cig lighter using copper wire and ring terminals to the chassis. It sounds a little better, but there's still ground loop noise, and a little engine noise. Tomorrow I'm going to check and clean the battery neg and alt wires. I'm going to order the GLI I mentioned in another post. I'll relay the results.
