Question Starmate 4 Problem w/ Power

So I got this new radio for Christmas this year and am excited to get this working. The problem I am having is I can't get the radio to power on and the troubleshooting part of the manual doesn't help much. I've tested it in three other cars and it won't power on. I'm guessing that there is a simple explanation to this, because I am probably doing something wrong.

The car I'm going to put it in is a Jeep Wrangler 2001, and I would like some tips on where to place the antenna.

Any Ideas?

Sounds like a poor connection inside the cig lighter plug. Perhaps you can return it and get a new kit. Or take it apart and use an ohmmeter to figure out where the continuity is broken.

Also, when you say you checked the fuse, did you do that visually or with an ohmmeter? Sometime a fuse can look good, but still be bad (no connection at its ends).

go to any car stereo place and have them check it out, they might even do it for free if they arent busy, and then only charge you if work needs to be done

So the problem with this is the cigarette lighter adapter? Or could it possibly be something else? Anything else I can check for?

I really want to get this thing working.

Do you have access to another car? (Friend relative?)..

Try plug the unit in another vehicle.. If it still doesn't work, then it's most likely a faulty power plug.... You'll have to return it.

I hope you get it running. (It's a pain having to wait to use a new toy )

It's look like to me you have a bad cigarette lighter adapter. Before you buy another one check with your voltmeter your car cigarette lighter's plug make sure you get at least 12v out.

I have returned 3 units in two days. The Sirius rep that I spoke to said that some of the newer units (Starmate 4 and Sportster 4) are having growing pains and could be defective. I was advised to return the items to the store where they were purchased. The cigarette lighter port that they were plugged into works find. The Sportster Replay that these units replaced still works in it. I am now in the process of replacing the Sportster Replay with another one, as the LCD no longer works, however, I know that the machine functions.
